Flashdance: Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture

Love the CD, but will warn you may find a slight stutter during start of first song. Mine has it, but doesn't take away from t he great music offered in this CD.

Music from the movie. Fun soundtrack

The soundtracks that seemed to come out in the 80s seemed to redefine the genre. Previously soundtracks were mostly musical scores or great classical pieces (think Star Wars, then buy Star Wars). While there were other soundtracks out in the late 70s that I remember they were usually by a single group (Bee Gees). Musicals were exemptions as they were usually cast scores, and if the musical worked (think Grease) then the soundtrack worked. But in the 80s you had Footloose, Top Gun and of course Flashdance. The songs rocked, the stars were top notch (though sometimes they would shine better on soundtracks than on their original albums). Of course you had Purple Rain, but that was pretty much about Prince (which worked well since the movie was pretty much all about Prince and his unforgettable rise to power (and an artist who deserved such status as he writes/records/plays and sings with little to no effort yet still releases masterpieces). But the compilation of artists seemed to be at its peak with the 80s and early 90s. Now soundtracks had to rock and have top talent, not c-list singers who give the soundtracks such a bland studio quality). Boasting the hits Flashdance...What a Feeling, Maniac and Seduce Me Tonight there is a lot to indulge in here. No soundtrack collection or 80s collection is complete without this album.

There is everything to love in this album. No bad song or filler in this album at all. From epic pop to instrumentals, to rock 'n' roll, disco, rock r&b fusion, to pop rock. This soundtrack to me is better than the soundtracks of Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Saturday Night Fever and pulls ahead by a bit from Footloose. Give it a listen on Spotify, once you're done, you'll be ordering a physical copy from Amazon! I never knew how good it is prior to this since Maniac by Michael Sembello and Flashdance... What A Feeling are almost overplayed and better known. However, every track deserves attention. As a Laura Branigan fan, the track Imagination, a fusion of r&b delivery and rock instrumentation is a must have track! For fans of melodious, catchy pop music, this album deserves to be in your collection.
