Outstanding Value for a Handmade in USA Cutting Board!
I recently purchased the Boos 15"x20" x 2 1/4" x maple cutting board as a supplement to my Boos 12" x 12" x 1.5" board. The first thing to keep in mind is that you need to oil your board heavily when you first receive it with either food grade mineral oil or Boos Mystery oil (a mineral oil cocktail). Oil it until it stops absorbing oil, then apply the Boos board cream to all surfaces and allow to cure overnight. Wipe off all excess residue and your board will be ready to use, just reapply oil and/or cream as needed. I nearly purchased a 12" x 18" x 2.25" Boos end grain black walnut board through a chef's supply vendor but the price was a pretty bitter pill to swallow. As well, I realized that my knives have held up very well using the smaller edge grained maple board by Boos, though, I am sure that end grain boards may be easier on your knives. The 20" x 15" x 2.25" Boos cutting board is a winner on every level, it is well made, a great value and looks absolutely fantastic on the kitchen counter! Oh, it is rather hefty and not for the slight of frame. Persons of shorter stature may be better served by a thinner, lighter weight cutting board. This Boos, however, is great if you use a 10" chef's knives regularly, it just has the necessary real-estate to make food prep easier and more enjoyable. My set up includes: The aforementioned John Boos cutting boards, Boos Mystery Oil and Board Cream, and Zwilling Professional S and Miyabi 600 D knives. Pros: Big beautiful slab of maple Made in USA Easy on your knives Rock solid build quality NSF approved Price Cons: Big heavy slab of maple Effectively increases countertop height Verdict: Perfect for the amateur chef You need one, yes, you really do! 5 Stars Plus! Update 2/4/2025: I added a 15"x20"x2 1/4" Cherry Boos Block to our kitchen around 6-7 years ago. Both boards are still in excellent condition and I expect they will outlive me. Just follow their care directions, use the Boos Mystery Oil and Board Cream, the applicator is also handy and well made. As nice as the maple cutting board is, the cherry is at another level! Buy good knives, and good cutting boards to help maintain their edges and it makes prep and cooking a real pleasure!

Dad loves this
Bought this as a birthday present for my dad. It's great! VERY large and chunky. He loves to wax it and keep it clean. Ultimately it keeps your counters from getting cut by sharp knives. As advertised its nice. Not sure if the price tag it worth it. Only you can define how much you're willing to pay for a hunk of wood.

Works great when properly cared for
I own a few John Boos chopping blocks and boards. These are finely made and durable in the sizes they are designed for. I recommend oiling a brand new block with food grade mineral oil as soon as you receive it and thoroughly coat all sides and leave it to rest overnight. In the morning wipe off all excess oil and you can use it. I oil my boards every 2 months with a good food grade mineral oil or Boos Mystery oil and follow up every 6 months with a good beeswax/mineral oil mix on the cutting surfaces. These are the best made in Maple and will be an heirloom for your descendants when properly cared for. Never wash in a dish washer or let the board remain wet.

Get cherry.
I got the cherry 20×15. Everyone gets maple, but the cherry is a wow. No knicks, dings, knots, nothing. The cutting board arrived in perfect condition. There were these foam corner brackets that suspended the board inside the box during shipping. I was worried about dings from some of the other reviews - there were none. It comes with a little pocket of oil too. I added the oil and creme set and plan to use them monthly as suggested. The creme is extra emollient for added conditioning. The 2 1/4" thickness is so substantial. Beautiful to look at, special to use. I'm super happy with this purchase.

Poor quality & cracking where the glue sits.
So I don’t normally write reviews but I feel like this one is worth it. Within about a year or so I’ve had two of these wooden blocks start splitting. The first one split within maybe 3 months. I’ve had the second one now for maybe 7 months and it is now also splitting at the ends. This company wouldn’t help pay for shipping so I ended up paying like $40 to ship this heavy item back so they could send me another one. The cracks are forming at the ends where the glue sits. John Boos boards are used professionally and have a good reputation so I’m wondering if there is some sort of quality control issue or due to the pressing and gluing process but I would consider this especially for how much these cost. I baby my kitchen tools and that is no different for both of these boards. I clean them as needed and oil them properly. I know growing up the old chop boards that my grandmother or parents had is still intact. I’m hoping for some sort of remedy for this situation. Definite lack of good customer service and quality.

Nice, but not finished well
This is a nice sturdy board, but not finished particularly well. I expected smooth, prepped surfaces protected by "Boos Block Cream With Beeswax Finish" as advertised; but surfaces are noticeably rough and wiping them down with a wet towel revealed what looked like rather dry raw unfinished wood. The board had wood fiber fuzz so it needed a bit of sanding with 320-grit sandpaper to become reasonably smooth, and then it soaked up the entire 1.5 oz packet of Boos' "mystery oil" that was provided. Now it looks and feels fine but apparently Boos cuts some corners in finishing their products. Ignoring the need to finish the board, it's very sturdy and reasonably well made (with some minor imperfections along glue lines). Also, it arrives very well packaged, unlikely to be damaged in shipping. Expensive but (probably) worth it.

Quality board
For one, this product is fantastic for food prep. The wood is solid and doesn’t gouge easy under intense knife work. This is more of a prep station that would be best suited in a fixed position in your kitchen. Overall I am very satisfied with the craftsmanship and the available care products such as the oil and board cream are great at keeping it like new.

The color is much darker than on the picture. The design of the board is square, not rectangular like on the picture.

This is now my 3rd John Boos cutting boards I have purchased. By far the best quality and butcher block style cutting board on the market and very well priced. Others are by far superior and more pricey. Highly recommend.

It is a great board and anybody complaining about cracking and warping likely has not read and followed the instructions from Boos or done any research online. You need to buy board oil and do at least 2 applications prior to use, followed by a coating of wax. Store it upright and dry after cleaning, and reapply oil fairly regularly. It will last for years.

Love love love this board. Large enough to be sturdy but not so large it takes over the counter. Beautiful addition to my kitchen!!!
