A History to Open the Future: Modern East Asian History and Regional Reconciliation Paperback – January 1, 2015

This English translation of a book published a decade earlier in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese is extremely important for conveying a vitally important international effort to achieve common understanding between citizens of the three countries after the approval by the Japanese Ministry of Education of a nationalistic history textbook. The alarmed group of teachers, parents, scholars, and activists painstakingly met for four years, resulting in the 2005 publication in each language of a commonly produced work forged out of much listening, soul-searching, and determination. This English translation widens the scope of the book's appeal. I highly commend it to anyone at all interested in the flourishing of East Asia and, by extension, the wider world that is connected and affected.
