Very well made and functional. I made one modification to the unit. I dropped in an o-ring on top of the compass between it and the top "cap". The top curvature of the compass glass prtruded ever so slightly above the plane of the cap, where if dropped "nose down" on a flat surface the glass would strike before the retaining cap, possibly breaking the compass. My added o-ring still keeps the compass area water tight but ever so slightly brings the glass below the cap plane.

Like the aluminum tube concept to fit in your pocket or bugout kit. A tad expensive. I wish you could buy in modular format to replace parts or buy a blank closure for the end. I would then plan to buy 2 in order to have a navigation/fire tube and an extra for other necessities.

Would give 5 stars but mine was missing IR tape, i live in the US, to the guy below if you dont already have a knife you are not ready to survive anywhere

This is a very usefull item. The firesteel when used with a good scraper showers sparks, the compass is very high quality and accurate, the little signal mirror is actually quite effective, and the tube is very usefull. Use each piece individually, or combine them to your liking.I highly recommend this item!

This is a great idea and I will use the item for its intended purpose. But, it is simply an aluminum tube with a compass on one end and a fire starter (you provide the knife) on the other end. The compass is small but very useful. I purchased the extension tube to provide more room for survival items. Again, high quality, very useful, but overpriced for what you get.

Kinda pissed that what is advertised is the version sold in the United States with the IR glint tape, but what I received was one without the glint tape.

It is what it is, its ok. Its a bit overpriced, but if you want it, get it. It does what it says.
