Temperate Springtails are insects that feed on decomposing dead plants and animal feces in a terrarium. They are nature's recyclers. You want to have a healthy population of isopods in a terrarium in order to the system at it's healthiest. With these in the system you will not need to be doing regular feces removal or dead plant removal as long as your system is not overloaded with animals or plants. Overtime, these springtails get eaten and need to be replaced. Temperate Springtails do better in cooler climates (60-80 degrees F), therefore, they are not recommended for systems with a higher temperature. Our cultures are sold in 8 oz. food grade plastic containers where they were raised their entire life so there is no chance for them to die from shock. You get the entire set up, fungus, eggs and adults all in one. Cultures are ready to mix directly into your vivarium. We will ship your package as "Hold for Pickup" if ambient temperatures are estimated to be over 85 or under 60 degrees F.

Bugs for your terrarium
Shipped quickly which is important for a live animal. Ordered on a Sunday night and received on Wednesday. I ordered ther temperate springtails because I have a pacific northwest terrarium theme and my terrarium is at room temperature, mid 60s. Springtails were alive, with some in hibernation or possible dead. There are instructions to "wake" them up included. At first it didnt appear there were that many. I added some of the substrate from the container into the terrarium at first. I didnt want to add too much though because i had my terrarium already all filled in with dirt. I added some water into the container and mixed it up with my finger and a lot more springtails floated to the top and i poured these into the tank onto the dirt. I spent almost $20 on these bugs which kinda makes you wonder what else you could have spent your hard earned cash on, but gotta admit this price is cheaper than other online retailers when you account for the free shipping.Update: springtails have populated like crazy and are thriving. I break up bits of algae wafers and put them in the terrarium and they love it as food.

Perfect!
They're bugs, they arrived alive, and have gone crazy in my terrarium. I feed them an algae wafer once every two weeks, and still have a ton left in the original container doing well too. I open that once every few days to air it and close it back up. I feed them a quarter of an algae wafer.
