TOPPING DX3 Pro+ DAC & Headphone amp

This little DAC and amplifier sounds fantastic, even for £400 I'd be happy with the performance but at £150 it's fantastic value. It's as good as anything I've heard at much higher prices, up to £400 or more. I bought it to use at work, connected to my MacBook pro by USB. I've got several headphones to use when working and this device drove them all exceptionally well, even my Sennheiser HD650. Music sounds very neutral, nothing is pushed forward, the bass is reasonably warm and deep and the whole feel is reasonably relaxed. For example, some Joni Mitchell songs can make cheap equipment sound a little bit shrill or coarse, but this Topping DX3 pro+ works really well, even the song My Old Man is rendered well. The song He Needs Me by Nina Simone has beautifully soft and rich vocals which come through so well, really lovely to listen to. I found myself pausing work to listen to Star 6 & 7 8 9 by The Orb, the birdsong and gentle synth punctuated by the very deep bass made me smile. This is a great little amp, I'm very pleased with it and would highly recommend it at just £149.

Streaming via toslink is great quality sound. Cd via coaxial is amazing.

This topping DX3 _pro is great value for money and drives my AKG headphones with ease. The sound stage and detail are fantastic. I stream from tidal into the headphone amp from a node 2i.

In a glaring oversight, the power adapter supplied is incompatible with UK and Irish sockets, catering solely to EU standards. This lack of attention to detail, especially for a product in this price range, speaks volumes about the company's disregard for customer satisfaction. The included cables, particularly the USB, are disappointingly short at a mere 1.2 meters and of subpar quality. This inadequacy necessitates the purchase of additional cables for most setups, adding unexpected costs and inconvenience. After several days of use, a persistent and fluctuating hum emanates from the left speaker, even during silence. This issue, echoed in numerous user reviews, renders the device unsuitable for professional audio work or individuals sensitive to extraneous noise, such as those with tinnitus. Alarmingly, the unit's performance deteriorated rapidly after just weeks of use, particularly when paired with more demanding headphones like the Sennheiser HD 660S2. The Topping amplifier struggles to meet these requirements, producing crackling interference and eventually distorting the sound entirely. While restarting temporarily alleviates the issue, it's a clear indication of the product's abysmal quality. Further testing revealed that the device's shortcomings extend beyond USB connectivity, with optical cable connections also proving problematic. Frequent sound skipping occurs regardless of the audio source, suggesting a fundamental flaw in the DAC's design. A cursory internet search confirms that this particular model is widely regarded as a regrettable investment, consistently disappointing users across various setups and use cases.

This product did ship with a UK (type G) plug. Very happy with the product.

I bought this primarily to find out if modern ESS Dacs sound as good as they measure and they pretty much do. It also had the feature set I wanted: not interested in MQA and the x2 coax are useful for me.

Davvero un ottimo prodotto, l’ho acquistato da utilizzare collegato USB per l’ascolto in cuffia. La cuffia scelta è una Beyerdynamic DT990proX. Il DAC fa ciò che deve, con Player Foobar2000 da il meglio di sé, specialmente se utilizzato come uscita unica per la musica, escludendo così tutti gli altri suoni spuri del pc. Conoscevo già Topping, ho un altro DAC il D10S accoppiato ad un paio di casse HIRES e quindi sono andato sul sicuro. Il telecomando è piccolo e con tutte le funzioni necessarie. Il DAC si può spegnere con il telecomando o si spegne da solo con il pc.

Sehr sehr guter DAC/AMP. Die Preis Leistung stimmt hier vollkommen. Genug Power um auch Hochohmige Kopfhörer zu betreiben und für die meisten vollkommen ausreichend. Der DX3 Pro+ ist ein kompaktes Gerät das eine gute Verarbeitung hat und viele Anschlussmöglichkeiten und Features bietet, außerdem funktioniert alles Plug and Play auch unter Windows 11.

Sound is really good to me. I really like the look and slim design. Few less positive things: - Navigating in the menu/settings is old fashion and cryptic because lcd is very basic - I couldn't find from the menu how to disable bluetooth to use less power because it's a bit warm. I tried to do what they mention in the manual and I entered the DFU mode which I think is to reprogram the unit :( - I would have preferred a 6.35 jack - Could use a pixel matrix lcd screen to have better readibility Those negative things said, it's a device to play music, not to have fancy menu/display. Worked out of the box with Ubuntu 22.04. Pulse audio configured to play at 96Khz Happy so far of this buy.

Super clean and works like a charm. Controls are simple be can even be used with Bluetooth devices.

seller sent me the same broken item back twice to my place and now i cant get a refund, doesnt have any audio coming from left ear, tried multiple headphones, do not buy this item
