POE and managed in the cloud
Good switch. Half poe. Works great for my needs. I use it to setup APs for Sites I install. Supports VLANs which is nice. Cloud management is definitely functional and does give some analytical data.

Excellent Quality/Easy Setup
So far, I'm delighted with this switch. Installation was an absolute breeze. Plug it in, and it works. The web interface is clear and simple. Note: there's no CLI. What you see is what you get. That said, lots of configuration options are available. If you have any network experience at all, you should have everything set up and forgotten in about 15 minutes. Also, Amazon had it on my doorstep in less than a day.

Not good as a managed switch
I knew it was a gamble when I purchased it, but knowing the Aruba enterprise products fairly well I felt this could be what I needed. If you need a basic, basic layer 2 switch that's not consumer grade - get this. If you want to do anything that even resembles enterprise switching, then don't. You're better off buying an old Cisco 2960C off ebay.

Compact, convenient POE switch with mobile app management included
HPE Aruba is a known quantity, so I wasn't worried about the quality of product I would receive. This switch does take a couple minutes to boot up, which for smart/connected managed switches isn't unusual. I was able to set up my account on the mobile app while the switch powered up and got connected to Aruba's cloud. Then I scanned the barcode on the back of the switch and adopted the switch. It automatically updated software, and is running happily now.The app is convenient as well, showing port status, PoE power usage, product info including serial / mac / part number and description. It also shows devices connected on each port, although right now I'm just seeing a list of MAC addresses from the uplink. Will have to dig into that.It will make a slightly-overkill replacement for a Linksys switch I put in place when I replaced Meraki. So far it's quiet, easy to use, and should do more than what I actually need. Nice device with no recurring costs for mobile/remote management, and the option to manage locally if I prefer.

Great PoE-powered managed switch for more advanced SOHO networks
The Aruba Instant On 1830 8-Port Gb Smart Switch is an 8-port, managed, PoE powered switched designed for small/home offices or advanced home networks. This allows for things like VLANs, link aggregation, and port mirroring.I have a mix of TP-Link Omada and Cisco Small Business devices for my network; I've used Ubiquiti products in the past, so I'll be giving some comparisons.MANAGEMENTThe main draw of a switch like this is the management capabilities that it provides. There are two options for configuring the switch -- you can either connect it to Aruba's cloud and manage it through the Instant On website or mobile app, or you can configure it for web-based local management without connecting to the cloud. However, Aruba really pushes you to connect it to the cloud -- the included instructions only discuss connecting it to the cloud, and you have to search their website to figure out how to set it up locally without connecting to the cloud first (basically just navigate to the IP of the switch). As the obvious preference is to connect to the cloud, that is how I am reviewing the switch. The web-based cloud interface provides a list of connected devices, their current network usage, and aggregate network use. There's an easy to use interface to configure VLANs, port mirroring, and port aggregation. Upon first setup, the firmware of the switch gets automatically upgraded to the latest release. In comparison to other manufacturers, it has all the basics, but it doesn't look as slick and doesn't provide as many options. I prefer every other manufacturer's interface to this.PHYSICALThe switch is relatively compact for a 8-port managed switch, but it's bigger than an unmanaged switch. This comes with options for wall mounting, but no rack mount options. There is an included power brick, but this particular model does allow for PoE input on port 1, making it ideal as a switch at the edge of your network, such as maybe your desk or media center. The separate power brick isn't ideal but not totally unexpected.PERFORMANCEIt works as well as any other gigabit switch, allowing for the full gigabit speed.SUMMARYThis switch provides a fairly inexpensive, easy to use managed switch that is designed for home and small business networks. It's priced reasonably (though more than TP-Link, less than Cisco) and has all the features you'd need. If you have multiple Aruba Instant On devices, you can view them all in a single place. On the downside, the web-based cloud interface is overly simplistic and I would prefer the method for local management to be a little more prominent.

Very Powerful Switch with Super Convenient Features
I have only ever used basic unmanaged switches. So this was a new experience for me. It does take a couple of minutes to boot up which is different from the unmanaged switches I'm used to. Account setup on the mobile app was easy so by the time the switch was booted up I was already logged in to the Aruba cloud. All I had to do then was scan the bar code on the switch and add it to my account and then the software updated automatically. The app adds a lot of convenience allowing you to monitor port status, PoE power usage, and basic device info. For me, this is serious overkill for my home network, but I ordered this to help me learn VLANs and also to provide for POE if I decide to add security cameras or other POE devices in the future.Overall, this is a very nice switch, the cloud management or local portal seems easy enough to use and it has not caused any issues since I first set it up. I love that I have POE options as well as the SFP connections. The only semi-complaint I have is that I wish it was 2.5GbE instead of 1GbE speed. I feel like that would really future-proof it and move it into the upper range of small or home networks that this switch is already marketed towards.
