Amazing balance of readability and fascinating content
This is one of the best math books I've ever read. I am not a "math person" and never liked it in school, but I've been making an effort to learn more math for the last few years and this book is at the top of the list. Each chapter is short enough to not get bogged down in detail, but somehow also comprehensive enough to give you a real understanding about the concepts. The author has a real deep sense of the beginner's mind and manages to start you off with an introduction that even small children could understand, then progresses gradually up the slope to deeper, richer ideas. If you were a math major in college, or teach higher level math, the concepts included won't teach you anything new, but the format and style will help you immeasurably to explain the concepts to others in the future. Every math teacher should buy this and imitate his structure and phrasing in their lessons. The book is fascinating because of the concepts, but also because of how well he distills these ideas.I read a book about chaos theory earlier this year and I could have saved myself a lot of time just by reading the chapter in Math Letters about chaos. Really, really well done!

Math made accessible
This book is a great way to have like "mini lessons" on different math topics. Plus it skips the boring stuff and gets right into topics that are more exciting. I thought the visualizations were a nice touch, too! Rather than staring at formulas it does a good job at helping you picture how things connect. Pretty awesome.IMHO -- it's a very accessible book. By no means do you need to be a math whiz to enjoy it. That alone separates it from a lot of the more textbooky math books out there (like most Dover books that put you to sleep 2 pages in). On that note, it's helpful that most of the little lessons are just a few pages long. It's not a huge commitment to sit down and read through it.Overall I'd comfortably give it 5 stars!

I love math!
I got a subscription to Math Letters for Christmas. Every two weeks another letter came in the mail. Now they are all bound in one lovely book. To be clear, this is not a book that will help you solve your math problems in school, rather it explains the HOW and WHY equations work, which ultimately is more useful. Even if you don't love math, it is fascinating to see the beauty in mathematics.

Fascinating Read
What a fantastic book that I stumbled across on Amazon! I grew up always loving Math and Science as a kid and I am still drawn to finding fascinating facts that I may not know. This book is everything I hoped it would be! I love that it is an easy read and each letter discusses different topics. I have a niece and nephew who also enjoy Math and this will be something I gift to them in the future because I know they would love it!It’s so interesting what results are generated through mathematical algorithms. I love the “behind the scenes” perspective of the equations we learned in school and so much more beyond that

Really great book to read with your kids
I have 2 high school kids, and while I’ve always liked math they have different opinions. I bought this book after one of them showed me a TikTok video that the author made. My daughter thought the TikTok was super interesting, so in an effort to change her mind about math I bought it.So far both my kids love it! We go through each “letter” together slowly and discuss. The pictures and concepts are easy enough, but still very thought provoking. It’s a weekly family activity now, and we haven’t even gotten through half the book yet but we’re still going strong. I’m really pleased overall.

Invaluable to our kids
I became aware of this book through the authors, TikTok videos. I share them with my kids and they enjoy them. Truthfully, they have helped their grades in math. The book is a great addition and I reward the kids as they progress through it. I have no doubt the videos and this book have added points to their school math scores. The author’s approach is informal and inviting. He knows the topic and knows how to communicate it well. Five stars.

Why didn’t they teach me this in school?
This has been a joy to read. I struggled with math in school. The author explains everything in an easy to read manner. The illustrations are easy to follow. I highly recommend this book!

Amazing and elegant.
I just can't say enough good things about this book. I discovered the author on TikTok, and the book is even better. It communicates the poetry at the heart of math in a way that's fascinating to both highly educated adults (w/ degrees in math) and children. I read it to my 8 year old every night before bed. Please write more of these!!
