27k BTU 22 SEER Multi-Zone MrCool DIY 3 Zone Ductless Heat Pump Split System 4th Generation - 9k+9k+12k

I just received my order today. Have not installed yet. The only thing I want to say right now could help someone looking at MrCool #1 - The Line Sets I received are 7.5 Meters Long - This is not specified in any info or reviews. #2 - My 3 Zone unit 27k BTU 9kx9kx12k Came well packaged and takes up a full pallet ~1.5 meter tall.

Fairly straight forward install. Just don't overthink it. Review all part ahead of install because they are packaged a bit confusing. Don't get ahead and think out how lines will go and over lap. I would have been happier if one line set was shorter of the 3.(less coil to try and hide) But I was on time constraint and this was pre-packaged deal. Get lots of leak check. Adjustable wrenches the way to go. None of my standard or metric fit very well for some reason. Get 4" line covering minimum, 3" really tight. Still overall was what I needed and does a great job and I'm very happy so far in the Iowa heat. About 3 day install for one person. Support was a bit slow on e-mail questions. Online videos were helpful but only general. Very quiet unit.

UPDATE: Mr. Cool's technician helped me through e-mail until it is now working. I added stars for that but refuse to go above 3 stars due to the problems mentioned in the original review, and, most importantly, the reason I had to call for a technician to begin with. The instructions clearly state to tighten until snug and NOT to overtighten. Well, here I am getting told via e-mail to tighten "until no threads are showing". I had to cut through the sticky tar stuff to get to the connections and tighten them past the point the instructions so clearly said to stop at. I heard a hiss when I did, assumedly where the connection was breached allowing for the flow of coolant. It now works without issue. However, the instructions are also incorrect in the specs and use of the remote. They state the units go to 46 degrees low and I don't remember the high and to do certain things with the remote (yes, I was reading the correct remote section in the instructions). The lowest temp is 62 (not that I want it to be 46, but still) and the "fast cool" and other fancy options are not available on the remotes. In fact, if you try said fancy options, undesired things occur. In other words, other than the choice of shipping company issue, all of this could have been avoided if the instructions were correct. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I don't normally pay attention to shipping complaints, but that is where my problems started. They used a secondary shipper who used a tertiary shipper. I was told it would arrive on a Friday and that Friday morning I could call to see what time of day it would arrive. I called. They had delivered it to the tertiary shipper who would call and make an appointment for it to be delivered...the next Thursday. I had taken off work just to be home to get this thing installed as I had to AC (it had gone out) and it was going to be 111 the next day. The tertiary shipper was 2 hours away and allowed me to pick it up. I did so. It took the rest of the day to install the units and the next whole day to install the compressor, etc. It turned on and ran very quietly. Due to it being 94 or higher in the house, any air at all felt nice, so I had to wait several hours to see if it was actually cooling the house, which it was not. It did not display any error codes. Two of us each double checked for leaks prior to turning it on. I contacted Mr. Cool who e-mailed with me back and forth requesting pictures and for me to perform several tasks. When I reset the unit as instructed, it locked up till I had to flip the breaker to turn it off. It showed lo/no pressure error code at that time. I performed another task and reset it resulting in the same outcome. Then they wanted photos of the connections I had already wrapped in that black sticky tar and wrapped. I unwrapped and attempted to removed the tar, but due to the heat in the house, it was a gummy mess. At this point I lose my temper and e-mailed back: "The only way I am able to take pictures of that is cutting away the sticky black noise dampening stuff. I'm not doing that. It's gummy. The heat has made it next to impossible to remove and once removed, impossible to put back. And even if I did take pictures, it would be covered in black goo. The unit does not work. These units, and especially Mr. Cool, are known for mistakenly not coming pre-charged as they are supposed to be. And even if that is not the problem, the one unit whose hoses go cool still doesn't blow cold air, the compressor shuts off, and it gets stuck when I reset it. I have been without A/C for a month now in well over 100 temperatures. I can't sleep at night. My work is suffering. My dog is suffering. The house is 94 when I come home and the lowest I have ever gotten it is 78 one night. I want it fixed, and I want it fixed now." I have not heard a response and will update this review upon closure.

Overall, the installation of the system itself and the line sets was easy and definitely DIYable. Here are the problems I had: 1. They chose to use a 3.5" tube that goes through the wall. 3.5" hole saw is not a common size, so I had to buy it from the store as an added purchase. I already have 2 hole saw sets and neither has 3.5" 2. The manual leaves out all steps related to the electrical work required for installation. They do this because they don't want to be held liable. But heres my problem with that: this is not a DIY system if I have to hire someone to install any part of it. Also by leaving out the correct information, and printing the wrong amperage information in the manual, you are increasing the chances of someone doing things incorrectly to avoid hiring a licensed electrician. 3. The line extension sets and other parts are NOT sold by Amazon or MrCool. You have to find a local retailer that will sell you the parts. The prices are absurd ($350 for a brass coupler piece?) and I am unable to find any retailers near me that will sell me the line extensions. So as of right now, I have 2 of 3 line sets connected and the 3rd one is hanging in the way of my walkway, getting damaged and moved constantly, because I have no way to get an extension line set to finish the installation. Edit: I was able to find a vendor that sold the line set extension. It is very difficult to get the electrical metal grommet out, and during this process the air handler door suddenly fell off and slammed me in the nose. THERE IS NO PROCESS TO GET HELP FROM MRCOOL - THERE IS NO WAY TO GET AN RMA THROUGH AMAZON. Do not buy this

It’s looks nice, and even has WiFi capability. However, this unit must run 2/3 operating at all times (basically 2 of the 3 heads must be on and running). One unit always blows warm air, 1 unit controls to temp and the last unit blows cold air 5-7 degrees below set point. I called tech support 3x bs answers, but it ends under the experience that these units are not as functional as advertised. I’m glad it’s keeping my place cool, but more often than not it’s too cold and cannot be controlled well. Buy something else!

I bought this product because it sounded like a perfect idea, a nice smart Alexa compatible ac that you can install yourself. To start with they missed to send me one of the lines to connect the unit. I contacted them and was sent the wrong one as this lines come precharged, pre vacuumed. I let them know their mistake and they proceed to send another line which is not vacuumed. At this point I gave up and busy as I am decided to make others aware so you don't make the mistake I did. Product is horrible and the seller is not supportive

The installation isn't bad once you get some confidence. I had mine checked by an HVAC just to be sure after it was installed. It works sorta (I'll get to that) and when it does it works fine. Cools and heats like it says. The down side is the warranty. My outdoor compressor stopped working after 1.5 years. The board is fried and it was leaking from a spot inside. No problem, I'll call their support. I had to get a technician to come out and troubleshoot before they would do anything. Fine. $250. They confirmed it was a hardware fault however I have to cover shipping which is another $330. Not to mention I have to pay to have the technician come back out and fill it/top it off when the new unit gets here. Estimate is $300-$500 pending on how much it needs. So low side I'm just under 1k. High side I'm over an extra 1k. For warranty work. I never had to pay so much for something that should be covered under warranty. Not even sure how something can burn out like this with light use. We only really use it in the summer and supplemental heat when needed in winter. Not used daily or all day. Only when sleeping. Edit: Their warranty department waived the shipping fee after reviewing here and on BBB.

Man let me tell ya , I purchased a summer home without air got an estimate to install central heat and air for $12,500.00 sticker shock, I researched and for little over 4k I installed the 27k btu 3 mini split myself wasn't hard to do and they do a supper job cooling my home I'm tickled over them and the money I saved purchasing them . Update we've had a few cold ( 28*) mornings and the heat works perfectly on keeping a balance wormth in the house. I have about 1005 SF home I mounted 9k in living room, 12k in kitchen/dining room and 9k in the master bedroom in the back . Sometime I turn the 12k off and the two 9k keep it very comfortable at 65*, 68*or 72* on heat or air . Update : I've had my unit well over a year now no issues , both the inside and outside units are super quite you barely even hear them run , they're very efficient I keep it running 24/7 and my power bill is very low compared to central heat and air in other homes , my home stayed very cool in the heat/ high humidity of the summer and comfortably warm in single digit cold winter days , im now looking to install a double mini split on my camper, im tired of these loud units that require so much maintenance , it will be awesome to MrCool in my camper. 4/26 im 4 yrs in now and other than normal cleaning my unit have been maintenance free and still doing a wonderful job heating and cooling my home . With the passed winter ice storms in west TN knocking power out, I was able to power my unit thru the braker panel with a generator and maintain heat using the MrCool 👍
