Does the tools stay snapped in?

I have the same issue with the sockets. If you tip the case over, some of the sockets will fall out of their places. I noticed the newer kits come with a divider that sits inside the case. That might help keep them all in place. The divider was not in the kit I purchased a while back.

how does quality compare to husky or kobalt brand?

I am unable to compare to those brands. The tools were purchased for my daughter. I used the a small number of the and found them acceptable as a home owner.
