Amazing knife-a MUST HAVE!
This knife is amazing! I bought this knife earlier this year because I have been processing my own game for the last two years and thought this might help speed up the skinning process. I've never owned or used a skinning knife before. For a low priced knife, I was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice look to it and the handle is very comfortable. The case is very functional as well. It's nice that you can put it on your belt, but I just throw it in a zippered pocket in my harness pack. This knife is not just good for skinning! I used it to quarter my whole elk this year(I was too lazy to go back to camp to get the rest of my knives). It worked amazingly! Cutting out the backstraps and tenderloins- not a problem! The gut hook is a nice addition too. It works very well, just isn't as easy to sharpen when needed. All in all, you can't go wrong with this knife. It's a great addition to any hunters gear.

Awesome tool for skining, carry case is a bit bulky though
this is a very nice tool, i really like the design and blade holds it's sharpness pretty good. what i really liked about it was how easy it is to cut / separate the skin. the draw back is the carrying case is pretty bulky, it has a belt mount though it is still huge.

It cuts very well and is easy to use
It cuts very well and is easy to use. It has all the benefits of an ulu and the benefits of a knife. Last week I hunted over 30 sea otters and this was a huge help in skinning them out. Sea otters can get large, even over 100 lbs., so it is good to have a good set of tools to get the job done right and not wear me out as much so I can do more.

Great gift for the hunter in your fam
4 stars because I bought 2 and both were stolen. These are 5 star gerber knifes/skinners but the fact my little bro and his friend who hunt more than me kinda D-Bo'd one then the other after I replaced the first... Ugh. Anyways. The sheath has a plastic insert so the super sharp blade doesnt kill the sheath. Perfect for cutting open then using the hook to pull the front and back releasing the insides to fall to the ground. Just warning you, if you buy one make sure you keep an eye on it or the hunter in your family will get yours too.

Blade made in Taiwan
It looks neat in the photo, the blade is not of the quality I would have expected in the past from Gerber, I guess they have lowered their standards, you get what you pay for.

awesome
I don't like gerber but I've skinned a few deer and regular skinning knives just don't cut it. Well, they do physically, but not metaphorically, the angle of the handle is amazing and the gut hook worked great, the blade itself didn't come very sharp as I expected from gerber but overall is a great knife.

Chipped blade, out of the box?
I believe the seller is possibly distributing seconds. I say that because the tip of the blade is chipped, and two superficial scratches on the front and several on the of the blade surface. These imperfections wouldn't be tolerated by Gerbers quality controllers. Maybe my order was just a fluke. These imperfections are minor, but were expected!

My first field dress using Gerber
Wanted to attempt to do my first field dress this season 2013, but I did not have my own equipment. I went on YouTube I saw someone demonstrating how to field dress a deer using Gerber knives and the ez saw . I was convince and purchase them. I successfully accomplished the task with no problem.not to mention they weremuch cheaper on AMOZON. I am pleased with my Gerber knives and saw .

if the handle was metal and if it felt 'heavier' id give it 5. it does the job, perfect for small game, but i dont think it will stand the test of time.
