Ideal as a Starter Device and Would Serve Well as a Backup
We've gone through two cases of tape, and this little gem continues to perform well. Inserting the tape and getting it to roll out can be a bit tricky, and we frequently need to add water to the small reservoir. I initially bought it to evaluate whether we should switch to fiber-reinforced craft paper tape instead of the clear plastic type. The results were immediately satisfying. If someone accidentally knocks it to the floor and breaks the plastic frame, I plan to upgrade it to a more durable option. This has been ideal as a starter device and would serve well as a backup.

No More "Red Tape"
Been wanting a unit such as this for years. The price was finally right so I jump on it. The body and guides are constructed of a sturdy ABS plastic. I thought the body might be painted metal, alas not. But that is OK, because corrosion won't corrupt this otherwise attractive unit.It comes in a white box, surrounded by an inexpensive drawstring bag, with a clear plastic bag around the unit. It even contains three spare screws for the guides. Plus, an owner's manual. If you unscrew the white roller closest to the cutter there are two L-brackets on the bottom to screw the unit to a tabletop, or other piece of heavy board you may have. That means using a cup of water to fill the reservoir. You can rest your tape on the provided bar guide, or seat it on the bottom rollers. The hard part is doing the under/over/under paper tape feed. The roller is a textured cloth which really soaks up the water and does not appear to gum up after the bit of time I used it. I simply give the roller a slight spin to wet the roller, then coax the tape with the white roller nearest the cutting section. It's simply a matter of eyeballing the length you desire. Pull up and tear. Press, smooth and hold a few seconds for the tape to secure.I already fixed up a box and re-enforced the bottom of another box. I even repaired a large Kraft paper bag (remember those) because I want to continue using it for storage. The only sad part is I am currently out of things to tape.

Works as described.
This works as it's supposed to. What I have found after a week of daily use is that the last 1/4" to 1/2" of tape you tear off doesn't really get wet. Which is due to your natural tendency to raise the tape up to tear it off. That last little bit just doesnt get in contact with the wetted roller. All I do after tearing off is with the front end of the strip still held up in my right hand, I let the opposite end of the tape strip fall and lay on the roller and use the fingers on my left hand to just press it on the roller for a second. That only takes a second and gets the job done. The base is plastic and light weight. In order to tear the tape we use, I have to hold the unit with my left hand and tear the tape with my right. I may end up drilling a hole or two and screw it to our work table, but overall it's much less trouble that dipping your tape or using a sponge to wet the tape.

Best purchase for shipping
This has made shipping so much better. Tape is strong and so easy to use. The fibers help to strengthen any package. A roll last so much longer. I wish I would have found it sooner!

Perfect!
I absolutely love this thing. Makes sending out packages SO MUCH easier. was just wetting the tape using the sink, I was definitely living in the dark ages. If you’re not sure about getting this thing, just do it. The convince is worth it!

not sharp, cheaply made
The metal toothed cutting edge on mine came off after a few months - it was just held in with melted plastic. Before it fell off, it only did a mediocre job at actually cutting the paper tape because the teeth aren't actually usefully sharp. This renders this dispenser useless except for holding the tape, which I still do. I just cut it with scissors now.It would be better with grippy feet or pads on the bottom - doesn't stay in place well. Not for any
