It can be played with an older version. The game adds features that are independent of other tiles.

Q: Does the artwork match the artwork from 1st edition?

No it does not. It is the newer art style from Z-man games. Though I believe you can mix it in with the older style, the backs should be the same. but the front art style won't be.

This is an expansion. You use the bag that came with the main game. Dave

Absolutely no difference. Each expansion comes with a few mechanics that you can add as you like. This one has 3 different new mechanics revolving around the circus.
