David Fincher is a director who has had an amazing career with his latest highlight being THE SOCIAL NETWORK. But a film that was praised by the critics but overlooked at the Oscars is one of his very best - SE7EN. It is amazing to believe that it came out in 1995. It was a ratrity in its time being a true horror film while at the same time being an intense, intelligent deep psychological thriller. The blu ray is amazing and the film certainly stands the test of time. The movie is an absorbing, shocking and frightening tale of society, man, sin and the fine line that there is between good and evil and lives on in grand style on this glorious blu ray. The film is dark and takes place in a city with no name. Everything is aging, decrepid and depressing. But the black/white levels on the blu ray are superb and the detail and clarity are amazing throughout. Colors though subdued are still very realistic and pop naturally as do skin tones. The crispness of the pictures adds a whole new level of intensity to the film. And the audio is a mindblower with its 7.1 lossless DTS track. Dialogue is strong and present and surround speakers are put to excellent use. The disc also comes packaged in a superb digibook excellently crafted with much info on the film. There are also tons of extras on the disc. I highly recommend SE7EN. This is a film that is indeed a classic. It has standout performances by Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey. It is also a film that is not gratuitous in its horror. It serves a purpose and the way it is utilized makes it linger with you that much longer. This film is so well crafted in every aspect that repeat viewings will be a must. I remembered the whole story line when I first watched this blu ray and it in no way ruined the experience. The knowing of things actually added to the trepidation and appreciiation of how superb the film actually is. Luckily I received my blu ray packaged in a cardboard box but I have had the experience many have had here with other films from Amazon where bubble wrap packaging ruined a digibook. Remember that you can rate the packaging of the shipment in your Amazon account and they do listen. Also if it is damaged in transit Amazon will let you return it for another. Don't let them off the hook if it was not packaged properly. They do provide hassle free returns and stand behind their products 100% covering all return charges.

I rate this movie 5 stars, or 9,5/10. The movie is included among the 1000 Best Movies on DVD by Peter Travers. This New Line Platinum Series edition is really beautiful, with a DVD case simulating the notebook that John Doe uses in the movie, and with a second disc full of supplemental material. I miss the typical but in my opinion mandatory "How it was made" or "Behind the Scenes" documentary. You see deleted scenes and extended takes, alternate endings with awesome animated storyboards, etc. The movie in Disc One comes with an audio track specially recorded for the DVD edition, and in my Home Theatre sounds terrific. Also we have 4 different audio commentaries, by director Fincher, Freeman, Pitt and other collaborators on the film. This is a terrific thriller focused on two detectives (one new -Pitt- another about to retire -Freeman-) after a serial killer (always brilliant Spacey) who is obsessed with books about the seven capital sins, and kills people who represents them. After the 5th murder, he turns himself in and the last two (Envy and Wrath) are just a masterpiece of an invention. I've probably seen this movie just 3 or 4 times, but I can't help to be absolutely mesmerized and surprised by the genious of the story. This is a masterpiece of a movie. I rarely give 10/10 points to movies, so I gave this 9.5/10. To be picky, I'd like a "Hit" song with the closing credits. But that is just me being picky. The music by Howard Shore is good. The photography is excellent, the script is in my opinion the very best, and Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are fabulous. The movie was nominated for Best Film Editing for the Academy Awards but won nothing. A must for any thriller fan and highly recommended to any movie fan. Your collection is not complete without this one. And for the price ($13.99 while I am writing this) you can't get any wrong.

i thought that movie was good my favorite scene was the sloth part the one laying on the bed perhaps i really like Morgan freeman and i met the actor that played sloth named Michael Reid MacKay

Classic movie . Great thriller

Very good example of the horror genre, about a serial killer who chooses his victims from people who commit sins (7 deadly sins, hence the title of the movie). Brad Pitt plays the rookie cop David Mills who is new on the force, and Morgan Freeman plays Detective Lieutenant William Somerset who is close to his retirement. The movie is very dark and stylish, with a gothic and film noir visual style. This is a type of movie most enjoyed by the fans of the horror genre. It's a serial killer movie but it has a very surprise and unusual ending. Until the last act, it is still a pretty good movie but it is the final act that elevates the movie to another level. All of the actors are great. But then again, it is the final act where everything, including the acting and the story reaches new heights. Blu-ray HD picture and audio quality are excellent and worth upgrading from a standard DVD edition. Excellent dvd, 7 is a great thriller. The first time I saw this movie, I was so captivated. The acting was superb 👏

(John Doe in "Sieben") Als David Fincher 1992 den damals sehr unkonventionellen dritten Teil der ALIEN-Reihe inszenierte und dieser sowohl von den Kritikern als auch vom Publikum eher negativ aufgenommen wurde, wäre es unter gewissen Umständen vielleicht nie zu einer großen Regiekarriere des talentierten Newcomers gekommen. Trotzdem waren die verantwortlichen Produzenten so mutig und vertrautem ihm die Regie bei SIEBEN an. Das Projekt war sowohl für Fincher selbst als auch für die Studioverantwortlichen ein großes Wagnis. Doch der Regisseur zahlte das in ihn gesetzte Vertrauen mit voller Münze zurück, da er mit SIEBEN einer Thriller schuf, der tiefe Spuren in Hollywood hinterlassen hat. Er wurde Vorbild für andere Drehbücher, Regisseure und Kameramänner. Ich selbst verpasste SIEBEN seinerzeit im Kino absichtlich, da ich von Bekannten hörte, er wäre so ähnlich wie DAS SCHWEIGEN DER LÄMMER. "Schon wieder ein Film über Serienkiller? Nee, muss nicht sein!" Erst ein paar Jahre später sah ich SIEBEN dann erstmals auf Video - und war vom ersten Moment an gefesselt, bis mich letztlich der von John Doe erwähnte Vorschlaghammer mit voller Wucht traf. David Fincher nimmt den Zuschauer mit auf einen Trip ins abgründige Innere eines Serienkillers. Dieser John Doe (herausragend: Kevin Spacey) ist dermaßen genial und durchgeknallt, dass man als Zuschauer von seiner Person fasziniert und angewidert zugleich ist. Er verfolgt konsequent seinen Plan, um der Welt seine Botschaft mitzuteilen. Ob diese Botschaft in den Augen der Allgemeinheit richtig ist oder Sinn macht, interessiert John Doe nicht. Seine Meinung zählt! Und seine Meinung will gehört werden. Und da John Doe anders tickt als andere Menschen, kann und will er Zeichen setzen. Er will gehört werden und in der Geschichte tiefe Spuren hinterlassen. Er ist gnadenloser Richter und grausamer Henker zugleich. Der Zuschauer merkt recht schnell, dass John Doe der Polizei in der Person der beiden Detectives - der wenige Tage vorm Ruhestand stehende William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) und sein junger, aufstrebender Kollege David Mills (Brad Pitt)- immer einen Schritt voraus ist. Und falls sie ihm doch einmal zu nahe kommen, ändert er gekonnt seinen Plan, ohne sein Ziel aus den Augen zu verlieren. Denn John Doe wird nur erfolgreich sein, wenn sieben Morde verübt werden. Wer die Opfer sind, ist dabei egal... oder auch nicht. Interessant ist, dass der Zuschauer in SIEBEN keinen der von John Doe ausgeführten Morde zu sehen bekommt. Man sieht immer nur das jeweilige Resultat: Aufwändig dekorierte Tatorte voller Symbolik. Zusammen mit Zeugenaussagen oder durch Vermutungen der beiden Ermittler setzt sich vor den Augen des Zuschauers das vollständige Bild der Mordserie zusammen. So findet ein Großteil des Grauens alleine im Kopf des Zuchauers statt. Und wie stark ausgeprägt die menschliche Vorstellungskraft sein kann, beweisen jene - scheinbar zahlreichen - Zuschauer, die nach dem Film behaupten, sie hätten den berühmten "Kopf in der Schachtel" gesehen. Dabei kann ich mir kaum vorstellen, dass es David Finchers Absicht war, sein Publikum so zu manipulieren, dass es Dinge sieht, die gar nicht stattfinden. Fincher zeigt jedoch mit einer beängstigenden Perfektion, wie schlecht eine scheinbar harmonische Welt sein kann und dass auch eine scheinbar beherrschbare Situation binnen weniger Augenblicke aus den Angeln gehoben werden kann - und dasd das Leben danach ein anderes ist. SIEBEN ist nichts für zarte Gemüter. Der Film hat sich aufgrund seiner grausamen Konsequenz wie kaum ein anderer in mein Gedächtnis gebrannt. Wenn John Doe irgendwann in aller Seelenruhe zu den ermittelnden Detectives jenen Satz sagt, den ich am Anfang der Rezension zitiere, dann weiß jeder SIEBEN-erfahrene Zuuschauer bereits, wie genial und perfide Doe zugleich ist. Jeder SIEBEN-Einsteiger darf ab diesem Moment mit dem Schlimmsten rechnen... und es wird verdammt weh tun! Passend zur düsteren Stimmung werden die trostlosen Bilder während des Films eingefangen: Es regnet beinahe permanent und niemand wohnt oder lebt in teuren Designerwohnungen. David Fincher zeigt das normale, oftmals trostlos erscheinende Chicago zumeist im Zwilicht und die düsteren Tatorte müssen oft mit Taschenlampen untersucht werden. >>> ZUR BLU-RAY <<< BILD & TON (gesehen auf 50 Zoll-Display / gehört mit 7.1-Set) Für die Blu-Ray-Fassung wurde ein neues Bildmaster erzeugt. Dies hat der Qualität gegenüber den bereits erhältlichen DVD-Fassungen merklich gut getan. Besonders die Gesamt- als auch Detailschärfe wissen zu überzeugen. Auch der Kontrast- und Schwarzwert sind bei einem Film wie diesen sehr wichtig und beide Werte können überzeugen, so dass der Zuschauer auch in den zahlreichen dunklen Szenen noch immer viele Details wahrnehmen kann. Die deutsche 5.1-Dolby Digital-Tonspur kennen wir alle schon von den DVD-Veröffentlichungen und wird dem Medium Blu-Ray leider nicht gerecht. Hier wäre deutlich mehr möglich gewesen. Wer hören möchte, wie ein sehr guter 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio klingen kann , sollte zum Vergleich einmal auf die englische Sprachfassung umschalten... EXTRAS Auch bei den Extras ist mir nichts aufgefallen, was ich nicht schon von den DVD-Veröffentlichungen gekannt hätte. Jedoch sind insbesondere die vorhandenen Audiokommentare durchweg interessant bieten interessante Einblicke in die Entstehung dieses Meilensteins. >>> FAZIT <<< Wer die DVD besitzt und auf die hochauflösende Fassung umsteigen möchte, wird beim Bild einen klaren Qualitätsgewinn feststellen. Unabhängig davon ist SIEBEN ein Film, den man unbedingt einmal gesehen haben sollte!
