Drive Medical Heavy Duty Bariatric Hospital Bed, Brown, 48"

A very good quality "home" hospital bed!!! Not fully electric!
Outstanding home use hospital bed with therapeutic mattress. The description on Amazon is very thorough so I will not repeat it. I bought this bed January 3, 2015 after doing tons of research on hospital beds. I have really enjoyed sleeping in this bed with a therapeutic mattress for the past 2 months. The bed arrived on a pallet in 4 boxes. It weighs 300 lbs. I am a 5'2" lady so I removed the boxes on the driveway and brought in the bed in pieces that I could carry. Assembly was easy and I watched the youtube video a few times before assembling which helped. The bed is very quiet while the electric motor moves the head (to sit up) and foot (to raise your knees) of the bed. There was an issue with raising the height of the bed attached to the casters on the floor. I was surprised to find only one shaft to lift the bed height higher for the head only. There is room for another shaft for the foot height but it isn't included. The directions don't show it. So I could only raise the head end of the bed higher and the motor for that is very noisy. I ended up raising the height of the bed electrically for the head and used the hand crank for the height of the foot end of the bed. It was not a deal breaker for me and it comes with safety pins which I installed when I was happy with the height. If you are taking care of someone and need to raise and lower the bed, this would be a deal breaker. Overall, I love the bed but it is advertised as a "full electric" bed. It is not. The bed is very nice quality and there are replacement parts available.

Nice for the money.
Nice bed for the budget conscious. Rails are a little shaky but hold up. No belles and whistles really. Head goes up and down. Foot end goes up about where your knees are so you still need pillows under your feet if you really need your feet raised. Whole bed raises and lowers for ease getting in and out. I wish it was a little lower but it works. We put a 4 inch foam mattress on and it sleeps fine. Is very sturdy except for the rails. Is long enough for a very tall person. Was a little tricky to assemble but not bad. Boxes are very heavy, get help carrying it in. Assembly was done by two average women in about 3 hours with the help of a YouTube movie. (Look for the one assembling a Competitor bed.) Rolls easily but two castors lock if you don't want it to. Just really nice for the money.

Very Nice Choice!
I have Parkinson's and had trouble turning over and getting in and out of bed. This bed has made it easier with sturdy half side rails. The control lets one raise/lower the head or the "foot" end that raises one's knees. It would be similar if one put a pillow under the knees. The side rails can be raised/lowered.I have no problem getting in or out of bed with the side rails up since they are half rails. Personally, I would find it difficult to lower the rails once I'm in the bed.For me the mattress is a bit hard, but that's a personal preference. Someone else may find it perfect, I have ordered a one inch thick foam topper and that should do it.

Good for home use
Bed is great, do not like popping noise when head and/or foot is raised or lowered, had to drill holes in safety rails so would stay in up position, drive shaft to foot jumps off mating fitting occasionally but is not hard to replace.Bed was easy to assemble, had to have help because of weight.Just wish it would raise additional 6 inches.

Good bed for Mom and Caregiver.
This is a sturdy and well constructed bed. As many others have noted, the set up instructions- well, they simply suck. It took twice as long to set up than necessary because you need to re-read and re-read and finally just use some common sense. I appreciate the full rails I purchased but the two brill buttons that need to be operated at the same time are a bit awkward. But they do the job.

Same as hospital with less of a price through Amazon.
This is not exactly "light" although it is lighter than its predecessors were. I rented another similar bed and it was very heavy and awkward to move due to the independent motor locations. This product's motor is centrally located and the lifting of the entire bed is also easier. The reason I did NOT give a full 5 stars was; the manufacturer did not do a pre-alignment test of the headboard motor and crank assembly, as they did not align at all. I had to move the motor mount in order to accommodate the slide-on piece to have the pins go all the way in for a secure hold.

Med Bed info
Great product, Works as advertised, Shipping was VERY complicated... allow extra extra time to arrive. In fact CALL THE Carrier to notify you when it arrived at your nearest hub, I decided to get it myself & it was much faster. (LTL) Conway,FedEx & or UPS Freight are the Carriers. Also very easy to assemble. I did even read the manual.

Better assembly instructions needed
Just received the bed. The assembly instructions need improvement. I needed to rely on YouTube videos. The supplied assembly manual did not mention the removal of a shipping bracket bar that must be removed, nor that you can use the crank to align the gear boxes. The hi lo bar needs improvement in that it easily slips out of position while aligning. Instructions did not give any guidance that was helpful. Also, how do you contact customer service?
