A few years ago I purchased 4 outdoor lanterns to mount by the doors to my home from Costco that had no replaceable bulb and instead had a flat LED element that was supposed to last 10 years but of course didn't. The integrated LED element design for an outdoor lantern or large light fixture is just a terrible design and should be avoided unless your light fixture needs to be very flat. The Costco lantern began to flicker, strobe and fail on me requiring that I replace the entire lantern or disassemble to replace the LED element (solder new on in) or more commonly replace the LED driver (power transformer). All case are not sustainable long term and poor choices as another repair down the road would waste a lot of my time again so I ordered this kit (I selected the more costly glazed option figuring it might be better for outdoor use). The kit includes everything you need except I found I needed a few larger yellow wire nuts but that is because of the specific wiring to my lights. I took the lanterns off the house, disassembled each lantern by one removing the two top screws to detach the glass bottom then the 3 screws around the LED element, then cut the wires to the LED element and removed it as well as the clip to the LED driver, then removed the 2 screws holding the LED driver and removed it as well. Then I drilled out the center where the LED element power wire passed through to fit the shaft included with this kit, passed the shaft through the hole and secured it with the nut included with this kit. This repair worked out great is less work and cost as compared to replacing both LED driver and LED element plus you can insert whatever LED bulbs (or lower power incandescent) bulbs into the fixture easily to change the look or brightness. I now run 60W vintage Edison style LEDs on either side of my garage for a different look and standard 40w LEDs on each side of my front door.

Very reasonable price .. basically $2.50 for each socket. Has all of the pieces needed for assembly, and they threw in wire-nuts. I used one of the sockets to replace a deteriorated socket in an outdoor carriage lamp. Now I have three of its siblings left over, ready to be used for some future repairs.

I used these ones to replaced the type of bulbs for some lamp that use an especially lights. These ones let me change the bulbs for a regular ones with better bulb options.
