Big sound from a compact system for a reasonable price.
I've previously written a review for the Wharfedale DX-2 5.1 surround sound speaker system. I've since added this extra pair of speakers to my system to give me either 7.1 surround or Dolby Atmos. As the speakers are the same I've provided the same review below with a few minor amendments:Choosing the right speakers can be a real minefield. So many brands and configurations to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to start. The first thing you need to establish is what you’re going to be using the system for, and where your budget lies. You can spend an awful lot of money here, but it’s not always necessary.I wanted a 5.1 surround system to pair with my Denon AVRX2500H receiver, being used as home cinema and gaming sound system and replacing the tinny speakers built into my LG TV. The Denon is a 7.2 system, giving me scope to add either additional satellites (Whafedale sell a pair of DX-2 satellites separately for around £100), or a pair of Atmos up-firing speakers when the availability of source content improves. I did a lot of research, and was guided by What Hi-fi reviews towards the Wharfedale DX-2, which won one of their 2018 awards. (UPDATE - Atmos enabled speakers are still thin on the ground, especially in the entry-level category. After much research I found that a set of regular speakers placed at a high level will give generally the same results, if not better, than something like Onkyo's Atmos upfirers at the same price hence me buying these extra Wharfedale speakers.)They’re good-looking speakers as well, so you’re happy to have them on show instead of hidden away. As is common you will not find any speaker cabling in the box, so you’ll need to supply this yourself which can be quite expensive. If fact, it could be very expensive if you follow the recommendations of your local Hi-Fi specialist, however I saved a lot of money by buying from Amazon. I bought, and recommend, AmazonBasics Subwoofer cable and KabelDirekt 50m speaker cable for my system. I had lots left over from installing it in my admittedly small living room, even after adding the extra two speakers. A negative point that What Hi-fi raised was that the connections on the speakers are tight, but I didn’t find this when I installed the system. In operation, the sound is very satisfying and deep. Despite their small size the speakers pack a decent punch, and your viewing experience is so much better than just using a TV’s integral speakers. For the price point, these speakers deliver a lot of performance. You’d have to spend quite a bit more to come out with a system you’ll consider noticeably better, so unless you’re a real audiophile I’d ask why bother? For the vast majority of us that want a decent home cinema experience in the average house with family and pets wandering around, the Wharfedale DX-2 ticks all the right boxes. I've had the system in my living room for a year now and it really does make all the difference to your TV and movie experience.

Disappointed with mounting options
I have the 5.1 surround sound system but with the DX-1 satellites, one started crackling so looked to replace. Couldn't find any new ones of these so purchased a twin pack of the DX-2. Two of my satellites are stood on the TV unit just behind the TV and 2 are mounted on adjustable wall brackets (no vibration movement or sound vibration). The pair i was going to replace are the ones on the TV unit but when my new DX-2's came there were no rubber feet on them as with previous model, so had to make some. Also in the instructions that came with them it clearly says/shows an M6 bolt hole on the rear for mounting them on brackets as I do now yet there is only a key shaped hole to hang them on the wall. Sorry but this would lead to vibration and as mine are mounted in two corners this would not work at all. Why discontinue a model and in theory upgrade it when you downgrade it on fixing options. I could not upgrade my other two to match because of the fixing issue.

Brilliant Satellite Speakers.
Excellent little speakers as an addition to my 5.1 Wharfdale speaker system attached to my Denton AVR X2200W, expanding it to 7.1. I had considered Atmos speakers instead but I am more interested in music than surround sound for films so this set up works better for me, even at low volume the opening up of the sound is crystal clear.

Good quality speakers
Bought for a relatively budget 5.1.2 atmos home cinema set up with a 4k projector. These were used as the front surrounds. Quality is as good as you need for a home set up, sounds good they are just small enough to fit on to speaker stands.
