OXO Good Grips Twisting Jar Opener with Basepad

Works great, easy to use

I was in the market for a good jar opener, and this one was recommended. I got it mainly to open Talenti sorbet and ice cream jars. The jars are made of a soft plastic. If the sorbet isn't rock hard, there is some give to the jars. I swear, the lids were superglued shut! I tried banging them on the counter, holding the jar part with a kitchen towel and trying to twist the lid. The lid wouldn't budge. Even Hubby had a hard time getting them off. I got this jar opener, and now I can get the lids off. Sometimes I have to work at it, but I can get them off. The little mat sometimes helps, but not always. The maximum size this opener will work is the Talenti lid, which is a tad over 3-1/2"--the opener barely fits.

PROs: Easy to figure out and works well. CONs: Non-slip base pad doesn't stay put on the opener for stowing. The tabs easily come out of their place on the opener. In summary: My wife normally doesn't like "gadgets" given the drawer full of them but she commented that this one was a good buy and even she finds it very useful and looks to use it instead of just trying to man handle the jar into submission.

As a person who has significant basal joint arthritis, I was desperate for something to help me open jars. This jar opener gets the job done. It does still require quite a bit of grip strength to use, but this is still less painful and easier with the tool than trying to manage bare-handed. The opener easily adjusts to work with a wide variety of jar sizes.

Hoo-yah. Look out lids, your match is here! What else can I say? This beast kicks lid butt. I am getting arthritic and loosing hand strength. This baby compensates big time. Get you one! I don't care if you are twenty-something, some lids will defy even you. Get you one!

Excellent! A lifesaver as my hand strength has apparently diminished with age. This is simple and it works! Weight and quality are great. It doesn’t slip and grabs the lids as I’d hope. Great value for the money. Buy it!

LOVE this jar opener. No more hot water. No more knife under the jar lid to break the seal. No more silicone trivet to protect my sweaty hand while turning. Just ease. Where has this been all my life? The only possible issue is that there is finite expansion, so it wouldn't work with very large jar lids.

This product will give you a better "grip" on a jar's lid. It will not make turning a tightly closed lid substantially easier. I can grip it but still cannot turn it. If you lack the hand strength to open the lid, this product won't help with that. It only gives you better access to a difficult to grip lid, such as that on a little jar of pimientos.

My fingers tend to get injured when opening tight jars so my doctor recommended I get a jar opener. Bought this one and I absolutely love it. It opens jars as well as bottles with twist cap. I love that it automatically tightens itself to the right size while opening. Totally saves my hands.
