Yes you can go broke tek and use twisted cable ties but these are pre made, hold up well to heat and really useful to have around. I have clean gourmet agar plates so these plus a creme brulee torch to sterilise works wonders. Lots in the pack, a spare handle to give to a friend... You'll be happy
