I have 2 Simplicity 50" mower decks from different years but identical. Parts lists for both refer to this spring to tension drive belt from clutch. Older deck (purchased new with tractor) has original spring which is longer & larger diamete than this spring. Newer deck (purchased with used tractor) had a non-OEM spring 'adapted' to fit with steel rod extender. This spring works but is very hard to stretch into place. With help of a 2nd person, a thin pry bar placed between spring coils & wooden block for a fulcrum I was able to get it in place, but not without Vise Grips slipping off & gouging my hand. Please, exercise extreme care & seek aid from another if trying to install one of these. I bet it would work very well if slightly weaker or slightly longer.
