Works great for the value!
I have wanted a slicer for a long time and finally researched and found this value! It has a bit more powerful motor than some of the others. This slicer is so easy to use and get set up right out of the box. The money I save with buying whole packages of meat and slicing them myself whenever I need more is worth this product alone! I have not tried the making of beef jerky yet but I know it will be just fine as it does soft and hard cheeses and meats like hard salami. Love the two different blades that come with the slicer as well. The slicer is easy to clean as everything is easy to assembly and put back together. I am guessing the uses for this is endless, I am looking forward to experimenting.

So Far So Good
I'm giving slicer this four stars only because the directions were so obsessed with safety and safety features that I mostly had to figure out how to actually run the thing all by myself. The design is brilliant! It's superior in all respects to my old Bosch folding slicer. Recessed off-on switch so you're unlikely to start slicing accidentally. It stays on so you can hold what you're slicing more safely and more firmly. I have mine on a switchable (on/off) plug for additional ease of mind just the same. The lever that adjusts the slicing thickness is easy to make tiny adjustments with. The scale (in millimeters) reads from the front of the slicer (Well, duh. But the Bosch's scale was in back and a real nuisance to adjust.) The platform for the bread or ham or whatever is generous, and so is the length of the bar that holds the hand guard. And yes, all these are removable, but the platform also tips up so if you're slicing bread you can just brush the crumbs off and wipe the base below it.I slice bread more than anything else and find that it takes quite a bit of pressure to feed a crusty loaf into the blade. To make perfect, not thinner on the bottom than the top, slices I need a hand behind the upright. That actually helps brace an otherwise wobbly 12" long pullman loaf.my B&D Dustbuster makes short work of cleaning up after bread. It's not quite like any I see on AMZ today so no link.) I really appreciate being able to remove the blade so safely and easily. There are always a few crumbs behind it. I take the platform off to scrub and scald it when I slice meat, of course. So easy, with the nice big knob (no trying to hold a quarter in a slot). There's a little gadget that drops over the top to keep the blade flush with the frame while the slicer is turned off. It loves to disappear into the matching black machine so mine's marked with a bit of hot pink duct tape now.I spread out a couple sheets of aluminum foil to catch the bread slices and keep crumbs off the top of the rolling card and use these for dust covers between uses. And speaking of the rolling cart, the top is sort of scored into a grid, not smooth, but the suction feet are holding it so hard if I wanted to move the slicer I'd have to break the suction with a table knife or something first.I hope this slicer hasn't deteriorated in quality in the 8 months since I bought mine.

Definite value in this Food Slicer
First and foremost, this product is not to be measured against a commercial slicer - It's targeted towards the home user, and it fulfills the role admirably, especially for the price. To get the most out of the appliance, follow the two main rules;1) if cutting meats, pre-freeze them until semi-solid, and2) take it slow, and let the blade do the work.In general, if I take my time, I end up with fantastic results when cutting meats for jerky - the primary reason for my purchase.Pros:With a little forethought and taking your time, you can get excellent resultsCleanup is quite easy - the blades are removable for a thorough wash, and the machine is easily accessible.Cons:Pushing too hard will flex the slide, and result in inconsistent sizing - this usually happens when rushing or the meats have not spent enough time in the freezer. (hint - a little food grade lubricant on the blade helps immensely)Overall, there is a lot of value in this slicer - you get a lot for the price.I'm very happy with the purchase.

Mostly metal, well constructed.
This is out first slicer. We have found it very easy to use and capable of producing extremely thin slices, "deli thin". It has a small footprint and is constructed mostly of metal rather than plastic which we prefer for longevity. Like any slicer, it requires cleaning after use. The food carriage is easy to remove with just a knob at the end of the rod holding the sliding food carriage. The blade is removed by twisting the the center knob clockwise and replaced by reversing the process. Not hard at all. This comes with both a smooth blade and on that is serrated which we haven't had occasion to use. There are nooks and crannies that can hold sliced meat, not too hard to access, a toothpick is a great help in this regard. All in all, we are very satisfied and glad we purchased this after considering many others.

Box says 2 blades but you only get 1 blade
I bought this slicer for beef jerky. I have tried it out and it works pretty good for a low cost. It is easy to take apart and clean. The biggest complaint that I have is that the box arrived with no taped closure. I noticed that the box and contents page said it came with 2 blades and I thought perhaps someone had oped it and removed the 2nd blade. After checking the listing page, there is no mention of 2 blades so I contacted the seller and was told that was how they are selling them now..just haven't updated the box.

Small
Easy to set up, very sturdy, lighter than my old one. Even though it's smaller than my older model it works just as good and very sturdy. Cleaning is a breeze compared to my older model.
