Solid, waterproof, and comfortable. Consider this shoe!
I needed a pair of mid boots for an upcoming trip involving many miles of uneven, hilly trails. They needed to be waterproof. My feet run the narrow side of medium width, and hiking shoes are a challenge. Brands like Keen are WAY too wide, and historically Merrill's have been too. But this version (Moab 3 mid waterproof) fits very well in my forefoot and has good heal grip without any crazy custom lacing. The shoes are comfortable right out of the box and provide good padding around the tongue and sides. They breathe well (Gore-Tex lining) and haven't led to any hot spots after a week or two of wearing in. They are a little heavy but not crazy; they aren't for back country hikes and that's not why I bought them. They also look really nice. The price from the Merrill Store was exceptional as well, and they were delivered quickly. If they work out for my trip this will be my go-to from now on.

Durable and Comfortable
I've owned several pairs of these over the years, and they are consistently comfortable and long-lasting. I usually put SuperFeet in them for additional arch support, but I've also used the standard insoles and they're pretty good, too. The soles provide good traction, and the shoes lace up easily and snugly. Overall, a very good value in outdoor shoes.

Here's What I Really Think About This…
Super comfy right out of the box! These boots have great ankle support and solid traction. Kept my feet dry on wet trails. A bit on the heavier side, but worth it for the comfort and durability. Perfect for long hikes and rough terrain. Highly recommend!

Best hiking boots I've owned.
My second pair of Moab's. My first pair lasted me for years. Very comfortable & durable. Great traction and ankle support. I hike 2 - 4 times a month on varied trails and over varied distances. Merrell Moabs are the most comfortable and durable boots I've owned. After this pair wears out, I will buy Moabs again. Hands down, no question.

These fit as promised!
These are perfect for the one mile daily walk on my farm path. Extreme sole grips and grabs the variable surfaces I walk on without any issues. The boots are warm, comfortable and waterproof, enabling me to walk any day, regardless of weather conditions! At 70 years old, I can’t afford to gamble with inferior quality hiking boots. Best of all, I caught my Merrill’s on sale for nearly half off!

Half Size Up
Received the size 10.5(M/D) pair I ordered, but had to return them because my big toe was right at the closest point it could be to the end without touching. I’ve worn that size since high school (61-1/2 years old now) and am now finding most shoes in this style today are a bit short. Replaced with size 11; perfect! I bought these since my Moab2 pair are a few years old and the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. We’ll these are no different. I pulled them out of the box, put them on, and then hopped on an airplane off to a 4-month deployment. Only owned them for a week now, but they were comfortable on the plane ride, wearing to work (outdoors), and seem to be warm enough with regular cotton tube socks to keep my feet warm on the 30 degree temps where I’m deployed to. It’s been raining pretty much since my arrival and I haven’t felt any moisture inside the boots at all. I will keep buying Merrill Moabs when I need more.

Great First Hiking Boots – Glad I Sized Up
Great First Hiking Boots – Glad I Sized Up Just got the Moab 3 Mid boots, and as my first pair of hiking boots, I’m really impressed. They’re lightweight but still feel durable and supportive. I read a few reviews here and on Reddit that recommended sizing up, so I went from my usual 10.5 to an 11—and I’m glad I did. The fit is perfect, and I think my regular size would’ve been a bit too tight around the toes. Overall, very happy with the purchase!
