I was ready to be disappointed but...
Actually this is excellent! I was a little put off by the premium price but this is a well thought out cover. The kindle clips in with magnets but holds on well enough to be held upside down. The cover, when folded all the way around is held flat with a magnet which is important for ease of reading. Both angled poses are well designed and can be written on without issue. As you can see, the edges appear heat sealed so I'm hoping that I dont see the fraying that blighted earlier versions. When closed there is actually quite a nice "bumper" all the way around that should protect the kindle.

Great but flawed
On the bottom of the kindle are four pretty strong magnets which hold it in place in these official cases pretty well. I don’t know what other reviewers have been doing with theirs for it to be falling out all the time, but if you’re not flinging it around then the kindle stays in the case snugly and fine. It has fallen out of the case a few times, but not often and only when handled carelessly. The front flips over the top allowing you to read at a shallow angle or a steep angle if then turned 180°, which is the kind of thing you don’t get on many other device cases and the main selling point of this one in particular. Whilst the fabric itself is wonderful to the touch and the eye, after nearly six months constant use the edges are starting to fray quite badly. underneath the material is some kind of thick pad (where there are presumably some magnets too) but this stops just short of the sides leaving about 0.5cm of thin material which looks aesthetically pleasing but which my fingers are constantly catching and rubbing up against when holding the case or putting it in a bag/taking it out etc. Hence the fraying. If it’s just going to sit on a bedside table or similar then I would highly recommend this, but if you’re going to be traveling a lot with it then possibly look into the leather options.

No fear
Honestly, from some of the reviews I was expecting either one of two things to happen within the first couple of months of using this Kindle Scribe folio case. Either a.) the case would start fraying around the edges, or b.) my beloved Kindle Scribe would simply slide out the case and smash into pieces on the floor. This case is beautifully made. It’s sturdy, handsome, and incredibly functional. The magnets that hold the Kindle in place are strong, and the various positions the case goes in are useful. I use my Kindle for a lot of writing and a fair bit of reading, and the case only helps with this, with the angled stand position aiding both reading and writing. I found a piece of melted chocolate on the woven case fabric and was concerned I would be able to clean it well. I shouldn’t have worried, it cleans as if it is smooth, rather than the textured fabric it is. It is light weight, but rigid enough to write on unsupported by a desk and offer decent protection. And as for use, the stylus holder is secure but not so tight that it’s a struggle to get the stylus in or out. Unlike many cases, I don’t need to remove the Kindle to charge it. As for my initial two concerns? Well, I take my kindle everywhere: conferences, meetings, on a walk, or on our two week family camping trip. Now, I’m sensible with it, not slinging my bag around, and not just chucking the encased Kindle into my bag….but I’m not precious about it. There are no frays, no marks, and the Kindle has remained safely in place. The only time I’ve removed it from the case is on the odd occasion I want to use the Kindle on its own (full disclosure: I’m a bit vain, and think it looks nice). Given it’s held in place in the case by magnets, I can do that easily. So, top marks from me and initial fears allayed.

Annoyingly expensive but the perfect case
It expensive for what it is, but it really is the best case. I tried a third party case and it weighed literally twice as much as the scribe so made the whole experience of holding it annoying. Switch to this case and it’s super light, and make it really easy to pop it out when you’re at home etc to keep the weight down when reading. The built in stand is handy also for reading hands free etc.

Holds Kindle perfectly with magnets
Auto wake up and sleep, magnetic closure doubles as latching stand (use either way up), cut aways for the pen and a pen loop which is more secure, light, strong, sealed edges, non slip texture, looks smart. So good it ought to come with the Kindle. My only reservation would be that the Kindle is held in by magnets. Always close the cover before moving it and you'll be fine. The cover looks like it would protect from a three or maybe four foot drop.

Poorly designed
Spent a long time researching cases but settled on this one despite some negative reviews. As others have already pointed out, this holds into the Kindle using magnets which is not a great way of protecting the Kindle. On the first day of using my Kindle, it slipped out of the case and has scratched the bottom of it. Deeply disappointed considering this damage was effectively caused by the poor design of the case. Wouldn't recommend, especially considering the expensive price.

Good quality and works well
First off, yes it’s on the more expensive side compared to alternatives and this is what prevents me giving it 5 stars in the review. That aside, the case is great and is well designed. It does flip over the top rather than fold like a book but this is needed in order to use the case at different viewing angles. With a book design, you’d have to hold it or lay it flat. This design allows you to stand it up or lay it at a 20 degree angle. When laying at the 20 degree angle it feels just right for annotations, highlights or writing. I’ve seen some complaints about the strength of the magnets not being strong enough but that’s not my experience at all. It’s a shame that there’s not a better solution for the pen holder but it does it’s job. All in all I’m very happy with the case and I don’t expect to have to change it any time soon, so should get my money’s worth. As an aside, I have the Amazon made leather cover on my Oasis and it’s been great too. It’s what convinced me to pay a little more for this one. Would recommend it.

Quality improved on the latest stock! Edges are heat-sealed to prevent loose threads.
I bought the Scribe essentials pack in November, with the blue denim Folio. The price for the folio by itself seems steep, but it's very reasonable if you wait for Amazon Day/Black Friday/Boxing Day pricing along with the bundle discount. The more I used it, the more I realized what a good overall design it is: - Multiple kickstand angles make it useful in a variety of situations. It's very stable when standing up. - Surprisingly, the fabric didn't seem to soak up fluids, or get stained from handling. - Protruding edges and strong magnetic attachment make it surprisingly protective for an open-sided case, and help to keep the pen in place if you leave it magnetically attached to the Scribe. - Still, I found that the pen could get bumped off too easily when picking the tablet up, or walking around with it. That's when the pen loop is invaluable. It has just the right tension to hold the pen, yet it's easy to retrieve when you're ready to write. - The fabric is grippy, and makes it easier to hang on to the device when reading. - I wasn't sure about a top-hinged cover at first, but it turned out to be very accommodating when seated, writing on a table, lying on my back or on my side while reading in bed, etc. - BIG feature for left-handed users: you can flip your Scribe 180 degrees in the case, so the "grip side" of the Scribe is on the right, and the cover still works perfectly- not just as a cover, but as a kickstand. Access to the power button is just as good for right-hand or left-hand use. This is a major plus- seem my comment below about trying an Onyx Boox tablet with a side-hinged folio cover! My only complaint about the fabric folio, was the way it was finished- the edges felt almost uncomfortably sharp, and as other people have reported, regular handling over a couple of weeks was enough to cause the edges to start fraying. I actually had to trim little threads off the cover with my nail scissors. My reason for posting this review, is that I returned my Scribe before Christmas in order to try out a competing tablet from Boox. That experience further reinforced what a good little folio this is. The placement of the magnets on the Note Air3 C folio wasn't symmetrical- it was cumbersome, but stood firm in right-handed use. But when I flipped the tablet, the magnets were now in the wrong place- it wouldn't stand up at all! I ended up returning the NA3C, and ordering another Scribe. Imagine how pleased I was when I unboxed the Folio (I got the blue denim again), and discovered that it has neatly rolled and heat-sealed edges! Picture attached... The new edge treatment makes it feel more comfortable in the hand, and pulled threads shouldn't be a problem this time around.
