Great travel router; fast, nice features, great VPN support
I bought this for use on an overseas trip, as well as for RV camping. It's proven itself nicely on a recent overseas trip. Why I like travel routers, in general: (1) Connect all my devices to the router before leaving for a trip, and then when I arrive at a destination, I only have to connect one device (the travel router) to the Internet. This allows me to use multiple devices where some destinations limit the number of connected devices. It also allows family members to not have to connect their own individual devices to the wifi. (2) Use a VPN when connecting to WiFi hotspots of unknown quality. I don't know how safe a hotel's WiFi is, or a campground's WiFi. Some may be great, but some may be run by people who aren't very good at securing the network. By connecting my devices to the travel router, and having it set up to use a VPN, I'm establishing my own security. I can also choose a VPN server in the region of the world that makes the most sense for my use case. (3) Range extension: Whether I'm plugging into a network jack in a hotel, or connecting the router wirelessly to the hotel or campground's network, the router has better antennas than some of my devices, and can be situated in a location that gets better signal. In my RV I can put it near the ceiling or near a window, for example. Then I'm able to rebroadcast my own wifi bubble that my devices connect to with fewer problems. The reason I like *this* travel router are: (1) Size. It's slightly larger than the previous travel router I used, but still compact enough to take anywhere. (2) Capabilities: Adguard, DNS over HTTPS, Wireguard / OpenVPN, and the configurability of OpenWRT. It's a full-featured router. (3) Range: Its antennas seem to work very well to pull in wifi signals in tricky places like campgrounds. (4) Speed: On my recent trip overseas I was able to stream movies over WireGuard VPN (using ProtonVPN) without any difficulty, while other devices still were browsing the internet fine. It's the fastest travel router I've ever owned (it's my 4th travel router). I really was surprised at how well it performed with WireGuard VPN. Its speeds with WireGuard are as fast as the unprotected speeds of my older travel routers.Places where this router is a perfect fit:(1) 3-bedroom or smaller apartments. I've set up good quality travel routers as the primary routers in apartments before, and have found them perfectly satisfactory. This, being the fastest travel router I've used, and having very good range, is ideal in such situations. Why mess with a big ugly router in a small apartment when this will do the job just fine?(2) RV camping in campgrounds that provide Wifi. Often these locations have difficult wifi. So placing the router in a position within the RV that seems to get the best signal, can help in rebroadcasting a usable signal to the rest of your devices.(3) Travel to hotels that limit number of devices.(4) Anywhere a VPN can be useful. Sometimes I'll leave this router running at home so that if I want my device to connect through a VPN I just select this router's wifi SSID. When I don't need the VPN, I select my home's router's SSID. It's often useful to be able to select VPN points of presence in other parts of the world.(5) Sharing a hotspot. I can allow several devices to connect to my phone when it's on hotspot mode. But it's sometimes easier to just connect a travel router to my phone's hotspot and let family members connect to the travel router; stronger signal, for example.

Home and Travel Router
I purchased 2 of these routers, one to set up as my home wireguard server and one for my wireguard client to use when I am traveling. I had numerous issues with set up (long story short, make sure you know how to set up port forwarding with your ISP modem before attempting to do anything). After many hours of frustration, I reached out to GL.iNet's support desk to assist. WOW. I really never write reviews but their customer support is beyond amazing. Over the course of a week, I had multiple email exchanges with them and ended up connecting to one of their analysts for help. She was able to fix all my router issues and set up both my wireguard client and server. 20/10 stars.

A must-have for your online security!
The GL.iNet GL-A1300 Pocket VPN Travel Router is a compact do-dad that I use often as a travel RN. It is a device that takes the hotel's internet and rebroadcasts it as a secured online data stream. It's about the size of two slices of bread and weighs slightly more than that. What I didn't know, when I purchased it, was that you either already have to have a VPN provider service, or you can click on one of the vendor links available on an embeded link within the VPN set-up page. All the vendors are well-known and well-respected, from what I saw. Thankfully, I already had a provider, so I just used the embeded link to go to my provider's website, sign in, and downloaded their server links for use within the router. What I also didn't know was that this VPN Travel Router has an AdGuard feature, parental control features, and a network storage / external hard drive feature! The included AdGuard feature and the parental control features are free! To use the network storage device feature, you'll need to update the VPN Travel Router with your network device linking software (either Samba, WebDAV, DLNA). I've not attached a NAS device to mine, so I cannot expound upon the process beyond this. The online support page says that the supported disk formats are NTFS, FAT32.Your initial set-up might take a while (maybe 30-min to 1-hr) just to update the unit's software and BIOs after purchase - to set up your VPN provider on the router's memory, to set all your preferences, and so on. As for everyday usage, the initial hotel-specific set-up can take a little time (maybe 5-20-minutes?) depending on all the hotel-side signing-in and residency verifications. After that, you just go to your hotel room and get onto your VPN's named access points, as you would at home (this can be automated, just like home, too).In conclusion, I really like the GL.iNet GL-A1300 Pocket VPN Travel Router for its compact size, limited wire necessities, ease of use, and security. If you're on the fence about buying it, I strongly urge you to consider it! It's a sad truth in this present day, but if you travel for work, you need this to secure your online activities.

Game Changer
If you travel often and for longer durations this device makes an enormous difference. This one is pre-configured to accept profiles from 30+ VPN providers, I am not sure if all of their models have that so keep that in mind when researching.Gone are the days of reaching out to your AirBnB host about a wifi password or your streaming services not working because you are on the road. That plus the added security.Plug it in and all of your devices automatically connect using the default VPN profile. I loaded about 15 profiles that I downloaded from my VPN service and, if I run into a geography based issue, I switch to another profile in seconds via the web browser accessible admin panel. If you travel with multiple devices like computers, phones, streaming boxes, etc. and especially if you move between a lot of locations on long trips, the amount of time this device will save you is remarkable.
