It's used to record mostly singing by me and I can tell you it works well and is sensitive I dont stray more than 3 metres from the source myself as yet but I'm confident it would pick up from a fair bit more as I have not had to use the gain at all for singing or talking. although its a directional mic it will pick up from the general area just not so much. For making you tube videos it is fine and its light weight and looks good too.

After using this for over two and a half years for recording live bands what can I say, every single band who has received a copy of the recording has praised the sound, quality at the highest level but what I get most of all is " my god the bass, I can hear it clearly" in fact you can hear everything clearly, it doesn't get a better recommendation than that, a sheer delight to use, if fact the sound has got me recomdations for bands to approach me to video them, if your looking for amazingly clear high definition sound, look no further.

This mic has impressed me big time! I have tested the Aputure V-Mic D2 before, which is supposed to be a 'competitor'. However, the Aputure mic had a clearly noticeable background noise even when gain was set at '0' on the mic and to '1' on my Sony a6500. This Shure on the other hand seems to have a much lower background noise. I'm using it with the amp set to '0' on the mic and to '7' on my camera. I only start hearing the background noise when I turn up the volume to a point that the actual signal is way too loud. ..The excellent signal-to-noise ratio, the battery time, the single AA battery needed to power the mic make it the go-to mic for me! When I first got this mic I felt that I'd overpaid for it. Even maybe bought something surplus to requirements. A little shotgun mic for £300... sounds a bit steep. Except it isn't just a little shotgun mic. It's a recorder as well. I bolted it onto a C-stand this morning and used it to record some VO narration and I have to say I am blown away by the quality. It's sold Shure quality, for sure. I took it into Premiere, did a tiny bit of adjusting and got it just how I wanted it. So I guess the point is this - this a audio recorder and shotgun mic which on camera gives you a great way of capturing atmospheric sound / interviews with more than one person / run and gun interviews with one person / and general event footage. And that sound can be captured in exceptional quality on a mini SD inside the shot gun as well as in the camera. You could do what I did and hook the mic onto a stand / gorilla pod and use it as a stand alone recorder. You can monitor the audio and easily adjust the gain. It's not perfect, but I researched this a lot and like what I've now got. It feels solid. Yes, it's pricey, but in the long run it will pay back - and in fact, it already has.

Very good mic, highly recommended! The casing is metal which feels very robust and professional unlike the plastic competitors. The audio picked up is beautifully crisp and professional sounding. When you watch video back, you don’t notice the audio - which of course is the point. Good audio is supposed to go unnoticed.

Well made and easy to use, this microphone is a great general microphone. It pics up well, is quite compact and I can recommend it.

amazing product that is able to pick up all sorts of audio very well, you will need to configure it with your camera first to make sure you get the best results out of it

I like the fact that it can record audio on the device as well as on to the camera.
