Exo TerraReptile Cave, Extra-Large, Nature Color

I *love* my new hidey hole! I spend a lot of time curled up in it with my head and neck poking out through the entrance so I simultaneously look sinister and feel very secure.When the Massive Noisy Clumsy Thing told me it was buying a new hidely hole for me I want sure it would be big enough. I'm a big fat royal python so finding a large enough hidely hole isn't easy. This is a nice size though and could even accommodate a slightly larger snake.

I had head people mention a weird smell, I didn't have this issue whatsoever.It's as big as advertised, better than expected and I and the snake are very pleased!Some reviews made me feel this was a gamble but I'm chuffed.

everyones right about the edges being a lil sharp.not hard to give it a lil file down.anyways despite that in my local pet shop the smallest model of this cave is £2 cheaper so this is a absolute bargain in my eyes and counters the filing job out lol.also arrived on time

Perfect for my Royal Python as it has plenty of space. Didn't rate as 5 star due to their being some rough parts inside, although in fairness, they were small and not worth sanding down.Seems sturdy enough, although I'd prefer if it was slightly thicker for peace of mind. Not washed it yet but it seems easy enough to clean.

My Beareded Dragon loves this, now that he has managed to get inside! The entrance was very small compared to the overall size of the hide. My son cut the hole larger and smoothed the edges, it was easy being fibre glass. Jasper has plenty of room inside and it's placed over the heat mat so he's very happy. This hide is better because it is also light and easy to clean, I would certainly recommend this one. The previous one I had was made of some heavy material when no adjustment could be made to the entrance or it would have cracked and broken.

These hides are great. They look the part and are very sturdy. My boa is currently 3ft long and the is dwarfed by this hide.

This hide is pretty nice! Good size and I've been lucky for it not to be delivered broken. There are a few areas that need sanding down a little but other than that there is nothing wrong with it that I can see. Not sure about the chemical smell but I shall reserve that for when it is added to my ball pythons enclosure. Although it is going to be his cool hide so we shall see.

As a long time reptile enthusiast and owner, I would usually state that I am a firm fan of Exo Terra products and would happily recommend them. Sadly, my experience this time has been both shocking and highly disappointing.I ordered the extra large size and this arrived very well packaged and protected; while I was impressed, this actually made the contents even harder to comprehend. This reptile cave is true to size and looks just like the images on Amazon but this has an overwhelmingly strong chemical smell which would immediately deter me. Even in the largest, most well-ventilated enclosure, I wouldn't risk it.The mesh/gauze type material which is used to form the structure of this has not actually been covered at all in places, making this vulnerable to moisture and humidity. In addition, there are sharp and rough edges absolutely everywhere due to this exposed gauze which would pose a real hazard to any reptile, but snakes in particular. I'm genuinely horrified that a hide from such a reputable company could be of such poor quality and pose such a high risk to health and welfare. Any mesh which is exposed also seems unsealed, making these areas a haven for bacteria.This item was either incredibly poorly made or I was unlucky enough to receive a defective piece on this occasion. As stated, this was very, very well packaged, so I think the most shocking aspect here is that none of this happened in transit.... This defective piece was deemed acceptable?! I have honestly had Exo Terra pieces for years and years which are in better condition than what I received today.I have noticed other users referring to sanding down edges and the like; firstly, you shouldn't have to do this and I have never, ever had to file down an Exo Terra product in the past. Secondly, and more importantly, I would also warn that you could alter or negatively impact the structural integrity of the piece, once again, weakening this to humidity, moisture and potentially introducing nooks and crannies where bacteria can gather and breed, much like they would in a cracked mug. This arrived this morning and I've already arranged the return!After always having such positive experiences with ExoTerra previously, I have to question whether this is a genuine product due to the poor construction and presentation. I would like to stress that had this been well made and safe to use, it would have been a very handsome and functional piece of cage furniture, which would have complimented the natural habitat I try so hard to provide.Unfortunately, I have no choice but to award just one star from a possible five on this occasion and I can not honestly recommend this to other users.If this review has been helpful to you then please take the time to rate it by clicking 'yes' below.
