Make It With Air-Dry Clay: 20 fantastic projects for modelling, sculpting, and craft

Parts of this review were taken from my blog where I review hobby-related things. I've shortened this review to make it more readable on amazon. So first of all, you do not need a wide range of things to get started on the projects in this book, which I like a lot.. Apart from the clay you’ll need paints (there’s projects that use acrylic paints, poster paints, watercolours, spray paint and even nail polish), tools (most of which can be found in the kitchen) and other miscellany you’d find in most houses. When there is something that is unusual (like spray gloss) it's usually easily sourced and inexpensive, The front of the book has a few pages of techniques before it starts on the actual projects. These are very simply explained and useful. In these guides they show you how to do techniques that will be used in the later projects, and also guides on how to colour and store your clay. It even has a guide to making your own clay.The projects themselves are varied. There are wall decorations, sculptures, jewellery items, bowls, tea light holders, planters and jars amongst others. This book is definitely a beginner’s book. I can’t see anyone who is seasoned at making with clay getting anything out of it, but for the beginner who doesn’t know how to get started and needs a bit of handholding I think it is a very good buy.

Good book that explains everything from what air dry clay is, how to store, tools, equipment, how to work with clay and 20 projects including templates. Step by step photos and detailed instructions. Very happy

I am new to air dry clay creations and was unsure about a lot of factors like storing and care etc. This book details everything! As a creative person, I can adapt a lot of the ideas in this book into more detailed projects, but for people with experience in this craft, this book is probably child's play. But beginners would learn a lot from this!

This is one of the best arty/crafty books I've ever bought. Very well set out, excellent introduction & info re products, plus two recipes for making your own dough/clay. Very clear instructions, photos. Highly recommend.

Great ideas and instructions

A nice looking book but the 20 projects are either pointless, the same ideas duplicated multiple times, or based on the concept of wrapping the clay around a mold which doesn't take rocket science to work out how to do. Would I ever have need for a clay button? Do I need to know how to make two different types of clay broaches or two different types of clay beads? How about a clay earing or ring? Do I have an inkling to make a miniature clay house, or a miniature clay bird? How about a clay feather? No.

Ordered thinking it's clay. But got book. My mistake though!

You need some specialized tools to make most of the items.

Not what I expected

This is a pretty short book that doesn't really give me the information I had hoped. It's definitely for a beginner who knows nothing. Not for an intermediate like me. No new tips or tricks that would help me.
