Is there any way to reduce the saltiness when preparing?

I have found that if I place the ham in water on the day before I cook it and change the water at least four times the saltiness s reduced. But again these hams are saltier then what they call city hams. K

What is the best way to prepare these?

I am in Afghanistan,and can not count on always having refrigeration. What I did with my country ham was use it up slowly in split pea and bean soups over the last six or seven months. When I prepare it, I cut off a slab with a clean hacksaw, and soak it for 24 hrs in cool water. Otherwise, it is much too salty. Then, I trim all the fat off, and simmer it with the soup in a crockpot for 8 hrs, less time for the pea soup than the bean soup. Wrap it up with a peice of cheese cloth and put it back in the original sack.I was lucky enough to have a small refrigerator to store it in after I cut it. The end that is cut will dry out and does not taste good, and is tough. I recommend trimming it off and discarding it. I have had these hams baked whole, and they are very salty. So my suggestion is to use it more as a flavoring for other dishes. I think it may also work well with scalloped potato casseroles, but have not tried it. The overall product was good and I wopuld buy it again.
