Great replacement
Bought for an old dell laptop as hard drive was failing. Works as expected, quiet, fast and laptop is now back to good working order. Bit fiddly to get in the caddy but a bit of patience and now in perfectly. Good value for money if you need a decent replacement.

Awesome! I was a little apprehensive as to whether ...
Awesome!I was a little apprehensive as to whether this drive would work well on my aging Sony VAIO VGN-NW15G. My biggest concern being the fitment and cloning the old HDD onto the new SSHD. Seagate, you guys rock! I took the opportunity to upgrade my VAIO OS to the new Windows 10 platform prior to purchasing the SSHD. With the Acronis tool from your website, the process of cloning was simple and easy. I was concerned that it would not be, as the Seagate website did not indicate that it was Windows 10 compatible. It worked seamlessly! As for performance, the difference is noticeable. Especially since I had upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The old drive performance was starting to get clunky to say the least. With the SSHD, the performance is much faster as expected. Yes it's true, the SSHD is NOT as fast as an SSD - I have a 128GB on my other laptop; but the price was a major factor. So all in all it made perfect sense. Thank you Amazon for the right price !What is very noticeable is the machine s overall performance. Prior to this installation, the machine was heating up and the HDD noise levels were very noticeable; almost like an old desktop HDD. I figured it was due to its age (6+ years). Post installation; and once the SSHD got going (its about a month since), my machine is as quiet as a whisper. I no longer hear the spinning of the drive. The temperature levels are much cooler; almost to the levels when it was purchased. All in all; this was a great buy. Thank you both, Amazon UK and Seagate :)The only downside was the shipping experience with FedEx. This is South Africa, FedEx! Do not under any circumstance leave packages with security guards at a complex; or any other unstipulated 3rd-party. Please ensure that you deliver to the folks listed on the package or that were arranged with you, prior to delivery. What got me here is the fact that FedEx called me first before delivering, made the necessary arrangements for delivery to my son; and then proceeded to disregard the instructions. I give FedEx ZA a 0 out of 5 stars!!! This is basic industry procedure. Get the simple things right!- the contact numbers and the person who would receive and sign for it - and handed over to a 3rd person. Poor service to say the least!

Easy to swap over & clone Windows 7
Bought this to replace a 3 year old WD in my Acer laptop. Basically the laptop packed up so I thought it was the HD only to be told it was the MB. Even with a 3 year warranty Acer tried wiggling out of their responsibilities. Tip - Never buy an Acer!Anyway I couldn't afford a new laptop at the time so found one on Ebay for £129.99 refurbished with dual Core 3 Gb Ram, Windows 7, SD card reader, 6 month warranty that should hopefully tide me over. It's actually pretty decent for the price & the seller has been great - that's all they sell, based in Portsmouth.Problem is it only came with an 80GB HDD & I had this one so used Macrium Reflect to clone that onto this 500GB Seagate. Having never done anything like this before was a bit nervous but it was very easy. Took about 15 minutes to clone the 80 GB with Windows 7 onto this and another 15 to fit as had to remove it again once tested to put the remaining screws in the caddy.I didn't have to rename this drive to C. The only thing I did have to do was increase the partition in disk manager. There is now 442GB Free of 465GB total. It is too early to tell if boot up times are increased - only got the laptop & fitted the drive yesterday but the freeware programmes I am using, Infranview & Open Office & Adobe Reader open up instantly in 1 second or less. That appears to be a definite improvement. I will install Photoshop Elements & Nero & see how quick they are.I paid £60 for the 500GB version last month and realise I could have got a normal HDD with twice the size for cheaper but like the theory behind this technology.4 Stars & recommended but could possibly be improved once I have done some more tests.*** Update 1/ 10 / 13 - It takes 14.64 seconds to shutdown & 57.72 seconds from switch on to Google homepage. Has quite a fair bit of software on it now but not loads of files - 436GB now. Software opens instantly on double click. No doubt SSDs will be the only drives within 5 years but at the moment these are a great compromise. A great and relatively cheap upgrade. Will keep an eye on it and update progress & longevity when I have had it longer!

An impressive piece of technology
I purchased this due to my laptop feeling slow on the ol' loading all the time. (When firing it up mainly). Since replacing the hard drive with this one, it loads up so much faster. I seldom have to wait (we all hate waiting!) and this SSHD definitely provides a boost in performance. I don't do a massive amount on my laptop but even tasks such as opening my web browser straight after logging in, which used to hang, now seems a lot more responsive. My understanding is that the SSHD has a portion of solid state storage (8GB in this case) that caches the most used stored data in order to be able to load it quicker for you, although I may be mistaken, so its also my understanding that performance enhancement isn't immediately noticeable but it does become noticeable, without doubt. So, my advice is if you're running a laptop or even a PC with just a traditional HDD and are looking for that SSD performance without the price, then this product is a good place to start. Just remember to buy a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter if you do buy this for a pc!
