Cheaper than calling out a plumber
We had a blocked drain for a week. We tried the chemical drain cleaners and even used a wire pole to try and clear the blockage. Nothing - the water still went down slowly and then stopped. Looked at the cost of calling out a drain specialist (£90 approx) and decided to search Amazon. We found this item. When it arrived my husband put on his old clothes and started on the job of unblocking the small outside drain (the one that the kitchen water flows into). After 40 minutes- the drain was clear and the water disappeared. The problems he encountered on the way - when first pushing the auger down the drain, put a cover over the drain ( this can be a plastic bag) to stop the auger whipping out and hitting the person in the face. Buy some good gauntlets XL Black Long Chemprotec Heavy Duty Gauntlet Industrial Gloves 40cm Elbow Length Size 10 Extra Large 1 Pair to stop the drain water getting behind your gloves. This is a great item - certainly worth the money. I use sink traps and ensure that all fat is poured into a container and not down the sink - yet these blockages do occur. 2 X Small Chrome Plated Sink Strainer Filter Hair Trap . Now it is clear I will go back to using Bicarbonate of soda (1 cup) and white vinegar (1 cup) + hot water (1 cup) down my drain every month to remove any deposits that have escaped down my sink.

OK within its limitations
Cleared out a semi blocked sink OK; also a bath outlet. Too light weight to clear a badly blocked lavatory but on reflection you'd expect that, and you don't know how bad the blockage is until you try clearing it.Limitations:It's 25 feet long so at the start you need space for a 25' tail, and also you need to be able to deal with 25' of manky steel spring as you withdraw it from the pipe.It does mark porcelain eg in a lavatory bowl. Also beware over-winding it in wider pipes like the lavatory outfall if they're badly blocked. You end up bending the spring which then means it won't wind round properly. But it's straightforward to use and works fine within its limitations.

Did the job, though it is very hard to get around corner bends that was further in the piping.

Great product, saved me calling a plumber!
This did exactly what was required, cleared a blockage from the kitchen sink pipe that Mr muscle couldn't get near as the blockage was quite far down the pipe.Firstly I want to point out it is hard work getting the looped wire to go round corners of pipes. You have to feed one end into the pioe, when it gets to a bend it will stop... So then you need to tighten the screw on the handle and then twist! This causes the end in the pipe to twist and go round the corner... You have to push a little too... Then loosen the screw and carry on feeding the wire. When you think you have gone far enough pull it out and the gunk will be caught on the end! You don't have to feed the whole length in.Get a bucket and gloves very stinky when it came out.. I would recommend taking out as much of the pipe work as possible to reduce the number of bends it has to get round. So good product, but hard work twisting the handle to get it round corners. My hands were hurting at the end!

Not long enough
Had no affect on blockage. This just didn't work at all. I wasted my money on this item just as I had on chemicals before it. Power Plumber is the item to buy it is brilliant.

Not for tight bends and not very effective
I selected this product because I needed a longer, heavier lenth of cleaner to cope with my drainage problems in a 30 mm outlet between a bathroom hand basin and drain connection. The device was very difficult to get around bends in the outlet, although with patince I managed to achieve this. Unfortunately even though the full length of the outlet was fully covered the slow drainage did not improve. Eventually I had to employ a local speciaalist at a cost of £90 to free the blockage. Not a result I was hoping for.

Useful tool
Didn't cure the problem, but did manage to wriggle its way to it and pull back some nastiness. Whatever nonsense the bathroom fitter stuffed down the plughole, prevented this from getting any further, it did successfully pick up everything that had collected against the issue. It's very hard to get around the sharp bends in our plumbing, they are virtual right angles with almost no bend at all. But patience and turning the crank eventually got it to the same point every time. Whatever had block in one of the bends was obviously a mixture of grout and bits of tile and whatnot, because there was a point past which it would not go despite numerous attempts. On the first attempt it had indeed brought back a nasty collection of organic material, from some 12 or 13 feet down the pipe.A handy tool to keep, although in my case, still had to use a plunger afterward to finish the job. Definitely learned the merits of such a tool in the process though. Between this and a good plunger, any domestic issue prior to the main drain should be no issue (would need a longer one if having to go in from where the drain is though, given how deep we had to send this from inside the house).

Worth it
This worked and was much cheaper than calling a plumber (chemicals wouldn't work) to unblock the drain in the bath/shower, so I'm happy! This is the first time I have attempted any plumbing-like task so I was a bit apprehensive. It was a bit difficult to use, this was partly because of the design of my bath (basically meaning I had to ask someone to hold the pipe still as I had to go in via a pipe rather than the plug hole: tiny plug holes and unscrewing the plug hole disconnects it from the bath entirely). Also you just have to apply a bit more pressure than I was expecting to get the thing to go around pipe corners, but it was manageable.I would recommend making sure you have some zip ties in the house to store this thing again as it's really long.I'm glad I got this one though as my blockage was quite far down the pipe.
