Excellent basic tracker with just a few minor annoyances regarding the app, actually.
Ok, so after a lot of thought I've decided to upgrade from my Flash to Shine 2. Flash was starting to behave oddly, flaring up those LEDs at random, and there was that strange air bubble expanding over its surface so it was time to move on. As I accumulated plenty of kilos over the years, a new incentive to be more active was needed.I've read dozens of reviews of all sorts of fitness trackers, I was so crazy about those that can measure heart rate but in the end I realized that I only needed the basics because I'm no athlete.Shine 2. I live in Croatia and by buying from this seller in the UK it cost around 600 HRK (cca 68 pounds) with delivery. If I were to order it from the USA directly, the cost would be double! So points for that. :) It arrived precisely on time, not a day later. Another point for that.I've been wearing it for 4 days straight now and it hasn't popped out not even once. I did almost lose the whole thing when the arm band got caught on the door handle, yeah, well, anything clasp would scream under protest there, so no negative points for that. The build quality is excellent regarding the tracker (the rubber band is so-so, functional, but could have been prettier). LEDs are not so legible on direct sunlight, though.Vibration notification works out of the box on Android, and it can be set up so that additional apps send notification to the tracker, such as WhatsApp. You can also choose the colour of the notification (I believe 8 in total) and type of notification (there are 4, and they differ in vibration mode and duration). It's useful and I find the vibration sufficiently strong to alert me that something's up.Vibration alarm is also working ok, and is strong enough to actually wake me in the morning, but I'm so used to waking up at the same time every day it might just be my brain waking me up few minutes before the alarm. But it works. Only downside is that you can set the alarm to either never repeat or to repeat everyday, no option to set it up to wake on work days only, for example, which is a shame. Feedback already delivered to Misfit regarding that, I believe it's a considerable minus to the otherwise good function.Vibration nudge, when you're sitting too long is also useful and can be modified. You can tell the Shine 2 during which period to monitor your activity (e.g. from 9 to 5) and how often to alert you (I've set up mine to nudge me if I'm sitting for more than one hour and 40 minutes. There are preset times, you cannot choose your on interval). Of course since the monitoring period can be set up it won't wake you up in the middle of the night to take a stroll. :)It has survived morning showers but that is to be expected, since it's water resistant to 50 meters. Multicoloured LEDs allow for tracking progress beyond 100% which is also nice.My biggest minus for the overall experience is that you CANNOT set up your stride lenght! I'm taking everday walks (to lose weight, I cannot run yet as I am overweight and my joints aren't so strong yet) from 6 to 10 km and I track my route with Runtastic on my phone. Now, Runtastic uses GPS and I trust it to be accurate as it gets. Where Runtastic shows 8 km, Shine 2 shows 6,5-7km. Calorie count and walk durations match between Misfit app and Runtastic. So distance is probably the result of the fact that I cannot set up my stride lenght and Misfit is taking some predefined average which is less than my actual stride. This should be corrected it is not such a problem to fix, and I doubt it would require the programming team at Misfit months to figure out how to do it!Sleep tracking? It estimates the time I've fallen asleep down to a few minutes, which is pretty impressive. Get up time? Down to a minute! I've learnt that I was awake for straight 20 minutes last night but I have no memory of it. I am prone to sleepwalking, though. Or aliens were involved, who knows. They'd probably remove the tracker, I doubt they are that stupid.Final though: a worthy upgrade from Flash. I haven't lost my Shine 2 but people claim it keeps popping out of the arm band. Hasn't done so for me. It's basic, but what it does it does good. Haven't have time or opportunity to test other types of tracking (basketball, running, swimming etc.) as this elephant does not do that. I'm satisfied with my purchase.
S**!
It is a super little watch and I highly recommend it
I have had my Misfit for quite a while now.It is a super little watch and I highly recommend it. I bought this on the 1st Jan '16 and it hasn't left my wrist once. Everyone loves to have a go at tapping my wrist to see the time and how much activity I have done in the day. I tend to update in the morning at breakfast and again in the evening before heading to bed as I find it does drain my battery on my phone quite a bit otherwise. You need to use the app on your phone to work the settings and it is so easy to set up and use. You can see exactly where you are at in term of your goals. It does get a little addictive though checking in and seeing your sleep and if it were light or heavy. If you know anyone else who is a Misfit, you can buddy up against them which is good fun - you don't see all their info but how many points they have gained throughout the day, and so you try and beat them.Has it made me work out more? No. But I am more conscious of my activity now during the day and when I have completed my days goal and my watch all lights up, it is quite satisfying, lol! Although on the other end of the scale, it is quite annoying and frustrating when you get into bed, check your goals and you are 1 min from completing the days goal...You can also sign up online with the Misfit website to see detailed goals and activity. It also links to various other websites and apps, such as MyFitnessPal, etc.Downsides? The watch face does fall out. Thankfully, the only place it has done this has been at home! But I am now looking for an alternative to the watch strap that came with the watch. It's not falling out constantly, but when you wash your hands say, and forget yourself and dry under the watch strap - it easily pops out. During normal wear and days activities, it has not just fallen out once. The only other thing is, it only tells the times in 5 minute increments, as there are only 12 lights on the watch face. But that isn't a biggy. The only thing that I wish it had, was a heart rate monitor. If it had that, then it would get a 6th star!***UPDATE***It's now the 17th May 2016. Last night I hit the sync function on my phone and all was good. Just 20 mins later and my watch is dead as a Dodo! The battery life on the app still says I am full too. Thankfully I have spare batteries in at the ready, but do you think I can get the back off??! It's driving me nuts! I have tried, my husband has tried. It turns out that I have an old Action Clip with my Shine 2 (Action Clip is the little clip on the back of the watch to stop it falling out and to get the back off to change the battery). All you are meant to do is contact Customer Service and ask for a new one. I just emailed them. Hopefully it is just the battery has died and not the Shine 2 itself. I have had it now 5 months, so sounds about right for battery replacement. Its annoying too as I just hit a best ever streak on days hitting my goals...now I have to start all over again *sighs*. Here is hoping that Customer Service is helpful...They were very quick to answer me, and after taking some details, promised a new Action Clip and accessories will be on the way to me within a week - that was a week ago. So still waiting. But I have decided to just go get another tracker. I sent back the new strap that I had bought it for a refund, and if I get this Shine 2 working, I'll put it up for sale. One thing that did start to bug me, was that you can't see the time out in daylight - not handy! xXx

only good for sleep and step tracking
I had this item for two days and unfortunately I am gonna have to return it.... this is what I've learn about it pros and cons:-really nice design in terms of looks and comfort.-tracks sleep accurately, a lot better than trying to do so with a smart phone for example.-took me a while to set it all up, but it links with my fitness pal, smart scale (I am using Renpho) and apple health app.-already popped out once as I was taking out the trash :D-sticks to your hand and leaves a circle mark.-the main reason why this device is not good for me is that it only basically tracks the steps... Today I have completed a HIIT workout that lasted 45 minutes and according to my gym burns approximately 350 calories... I was so excited to look at my shine expecting to see what it tracked and guess what it said?? Light activity - distance 0.3km - 51cal burned!! 10 walk to the gym has apparently burned more calories that a 45 min high intensity workout! haha! I know that you can put in a different type of activity you were doing and adjust it later which I was trying to do, but the activities you get does not include any of the gym workouts....All in all I would recommend it to people who would like to track their sleep and steps (especially good if your job is not sedentary), but if you go to the gym to exercise, or even the opposite - if you are a house wife/husband who does a lot of house work and would like to track how active you've been... don't bother and get something that monitors your heart rate as well, shine results won't be consistent simply because it does not have that function.
