I have to say I love this item - though not in the physical sense. I mean I like it physically, as it is an object, but I have no emotional feelings towards it, except platonic love.It is very bright, especially when you turn it on, and works really well at night when it is dark and you need more light to see things. The beam is very good, and reaches all the way to the bottom of our garden. To put that into perspective, our garden is about twice as long as Matt's back garden and it easily illuminates Matt's path all the way to his shed, which is quite a long way as you can imagine. About half the length of our garden in fact, and I can see all the way to our pond, which is easily further than Matt's shed is from his back door.To be fair Matt does have a bigger front garden than us, but we didn't try it out there as he has a street light, so you can see anyway when you come up his path.It isn't pocket sized, unless you are Andre the Giant out of The Princess Bride, so you have to carry it about manually with your hands, but it doesn't weigh much, and it's a small price to pay for not stepping in dog poo on the lawn, which I used to do every evening.Actually that makes it sound like a hobby, which it obviously isn't, but you can't see the dog poo on the lawn so I would often tread in one when I go to get the bird feeders in at night. You have to bring them in or else the jackdaws all congregate at dawn and make a racket. I mean I bring the bird feeders in, not the dog poo which I usually throw over the fence into the next doors flower bed.It recharges by storing energy somewhere, via a USB like what you get with a computer, so I presume it stores energy in the cloud like my phone does. It has got four little blue lights at the back which don't really light anything up much and I don't know what they are there for but they look nice. There is also a red light on one side and a white flashing one on the other, so you can put them both on and pretend to be a policecar, but you have to make your own noises as this doesn't have a siren or anything.In all it is a lot better than those old torches you used to get, which you had to set fire to before rampaging through the village, or those little ones you see in museums which went on peoples mining helmets and had a canary in them.I would certainly buy one for Matt but he still owes me fifteen quid for that cab fare so I won't throw good money after bad. I could get one for Alison so that she can walk back from The Staunton, but I bet she'd forget and leave it in the pub.In summation I'd certainly buy more of these if I had more deserving friends.Oh yes, it was also delivered very promptly by a new delivery man, who doesn't speak a lot of English, but he seems nice, and looks a lot like James Franco.
