Way back in the mists of time (okay the late 1980s) I had a matte black Zippo lighter that was my best friend. Never let me down, even in the middle of a windy Festival field. Somewhere between getting married and birthing a sprog I lost the blinking thing. So, 26 years later and unable to kick the nicotine habit and getting increasingly sick of disposable lighters (not only do they have a habit of jamming the flint when still half full but they are plastic of a non-recyclable kind) I decided it was time to treat myself to a new Zippo. I did look at various designs and pricepoints but decided that I would go with a direct replacement for my old favourite and purchased a black matte lighter. I have to admit that the price did make me wonder if this would be a genuine Zippo, when I looked at them in a local shop even the basic versions (ie. no nice design or engraving) started at £30. I am relieved to report that it is very definitely a genuine product and the build quality that I remember is still there. The lighter units sits snuggly in it's case and there is no lid or hinge movement when closed. Just waiting until I've had it 6 months and the hinge relaxes a little so you can flick it open with one wrist flick and then flick it closed again - annoying little habit but one I look forward to resurrecting. Comes with the wick ready threaded and a flint in place in a cardboard presentation box with guarantee. The box is nicely styled and does make it look special. You do need to provide the lighter petrol yourself (somehow I still had half a tin so didn't need to purchase any) but it is readily available both online and at Tobacco kiosks and counters in Supermarkets. Filling it is easy, and easy to overfill too - I did and there was fuel on the case outer and inside the lid. Makes it fun those first couple of strikes as it will catch. However, despite having a little fire on the outside of the case it did not damage the finish which shows no sign of my clumsiness. In these days of Climate Change small changes can make a difference. So, if you are still a traditional cigarette or cigar smoker or like the Great Outdoors and usually carry a disposable plastic lighter one easy change is going to a sturdy, true refillable lighter (lets face it those plastic things have a butane refill port but who bothers to try?). A tried and tested brand that is functional but somehow manages to remain stylish and will last you for your lifetime (if you are careful and don't lose it) has to be better than adding to landfill.

Best lighter ever

My husband goes through lighters like tomorrow, and has tried virtually everyone going from cheapy bic lighters to really expensive ones. Both of us never thought of ZIPPO lighters much, mainly because we have just carried on buying rubbish ones as it turned out. So in the end back on Amazon I go to search and search for a lighter, please let me find one, it was driving me mad. So in comes the Zippo windproof lighter, so there you go, done a full circle and came back to Zippo, difference being this time, I am sticking with them. It is really funny really as always did use the zippo fluid, as did my Nana, so why not buy the official lighter. So I ordered in the matt blue, arrived really nice in the way it was presented. So gimmicks at all, just a plain blue. The colour my husband chose himself. The sellers page showing the image of this lighter is zoomed in a lot. A lot of people who have used Zippo before will know these are not large lighters, well this one isn’t. It is very small and It can fit in the palm of my hand. On any mid range lighters he has bought before has had issues, some of those issues are the flints go quickly with the amount of zapping to see the flame, or the lighter fluid constantly needs re filling, or out in the streets or countryside, the lighter blows out. This next part is the thoughts of my what my husband is telling me to write on this blue Zippo lighter. 1. Very comfortable to hold 2. Hardly have to keep refilling up with Zipper lighter fluid usually every 5-6 days for him. 3. He doesn’t have to keep flicking the ignition to light 4. This Zippo lighter has a really solid feel and the matte navy finish looks great in person. The trademark “ding” when you open the lid is as satisfying as expected – it’s a small detail but really adds to the appeal. I’m not sure whether my model is the classic or slim version, but it feels well balanced in the hand and fits comfortably in a pocket. Wind resistance is decent and it lights reliably with a proper flame once filled. That said, I found the flint and wick wore down faster than I expected. Replacing the flint is straightforward, but replacing the wick is a bit fiddly, especially if you haven’t done it before. It’s not a huge issue, but it does take some care and patience. Overall I still like the lighter a lot – the build quality is good, and it feels like something that will last a long time with a bit of maintenance. It’s more about the ritual and the aesthetic than pure convenience, and in that regard it delivers.

absolutely loving this piece...second one I get to own, first being a brushed steel look This one has a High-shine Black body, came with the standard pack. It's sort of a fingerprint magnet though. am adding a few snaps ...but its really difficult to show the black levels because of its shiny finish.
