does it have an external pocket for water bottle

There are no external pockets. But the bag is really well made.Good wide straps to put on shoulders.

How many pockets/sections does this bag have please? Don't want everything to end up in a heap at the bottom of one section of bag!

Inside the bag there are two separate sections. The first is a small zipped pocket section, big enough for a mobile phone or small wallet and the second is a full dividing section in the main interior . This can hold a large sized book for example. On the outside, there are elasticated cords which can hold a small coat perhaps. It is just open on the outside and so couldn’t hold anything small.
