Fun and functional!
Arrived today and could not wait so my first batch of cookies is already cooked and half eaten! I used the recipe by Dee in the review here but adapted it for gluten free (used Doves Farm plain flour and one teaspoon of xanthan gum powder) and I also added some baking powder as that is recommended in every other recipe I've seen. Took a bit of fiddling with the press at first and a couple of practice cookies but it was actually very easy to use once I got the hang of it. The cookies looked tiny on the trays but grew as they cooked and they look very good, almost professional. I used 5 different patterns and all produce cookies roughly the same size so they cook evenly. The press was also quite simple to take apart to wash. This would make a lovely gift for someone who enjoys baking as it comes in a good case and looks impressive. Also a nice selection of icing nozzles which you can use with the press or ordinary icing bag. Another thing I'm impressed with, I found squeezing the handle was actually easier than piping stiff cookie mix with a bag and nozzle and the results are far more uniform. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The icing on the cake!
I spent a long time looking through products and reviews confused as to which, if any, of the cookie presses are any good. In the end I bit the bullet and went for this one, and I'm very glad I did! It really couldn't have been simpler to use - just fill with your cookie mix, choose your cutter shape and screw the top on. It took a couple of clicks to get going but after that I was producing sheets of perfect cookies in minutes! I used a very simple recipe as I wanted to test the product without using too much time. My recipe is: - 5oz self-raising flour 4oz Margarine 2oz caster sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla essence (not essential but very tasty!) The key is to make sure the mixture is not too sticky (either add a little more flour or pop in the fridge for a few minutes). You should be able to roll it into a sausage shape without your hands becoming too sticky. Rolling into the sausgae shape also makes it simple to then slide into the metal tube. Other ingredients can be added to the recipe to create more exciting flavours; I have so far tried - cocoa powder; orange zest and cinnamon with fantastic results! I haven't used the icing function so much as the biscuits are yummy on their own but so far it has caused no problems. It was also very easy to clean (I don't have a dishwasher so that's always important for me!) All-in-all a great product and one of the few that will not end up confined to the back of my cupboards!

Cookies are a breeze
I bought this for myself, initially to use as an icing gun because I am not great with using icing bags and the other type of plastic icing guns gave me sore fingers! Anyways, had the younger grandchildren round to make cookies, This was the first time using it.....and three eager beavers to help!!.......used the recipe for cookies as written by one of the other reviews, and they turned out fantastic, couldn't believe how many we made in such a short space of time, there are loads of cookie cutters to choose from, they loved picking out the different designs. I took the advice of another reviewer and did not grease the tin, good tip. If you want very small cookies, just click the gun ONCE and pull the gun away, if you want bigger and fatter cookies, click the gun TWICE before pulling the gun away from each cookie. ICING A CAKE - To be honest, I found this a little harder, it does work and it s certainly easy on the fingers, you just keep clicking the gun trigger, but personally I wouldn't recommend it for very fine detailed icng because it is difficult to control the flow of the icing, a bit like one of those guns that are used to put silicone sealer around a bath.....they carry on spouting product until you release the trigger.......this is very similar......I did successfully ice the outside of a sponge cake using the larger rose shape, I suppose I was just hoping it would be a bit more detailed. It could be that I need to practice more. Dont be put off this item though, it is actually very good all in all and comes in a great storage container.

Sturdy, Consistent, Relatively easy to clean.
I have now used this gun to make viennese biscuits three times in large batches, it is sturdily made, and fairly easy to fill, use and clean. The trigger end feels substantial, and the plunger that pushes the dough or icing out is (though not made of rubber, just a solid plastic) a snug fit, and very little dough if any at all gets forced around it. Some of the biscuit discs work better than others, some seem to need a dough recipe that expands a bit more than the recipes I'm currently using, at the end of a tube of dough the press does a double ratchet thing and dispenses a huge glob, if you count how many you have pressed though you know to only let it click once. I used mine on non-stick trays, i had to wipe them down thoroughly with dry paper towels between batches, any grease on the trays makes the dispensed biscuit stay stuck to the press. I have yet to use it for icing but cannot see it doing badly. The nozzle and tube bits are easy to clean, to save the trigger mechanism from any rust issues (the only gripe i have with this press is that you cannot get at the mechanism in the handle) id recommend not submerging it, if you wipe off excess dough after filling the tube you should only have to wipe the handle end a bit anyhoo. Came in a nice plastic box with a sturdier than expected plastic insert, just wish the lid clipped on The basic viennese recipe i used was the hairy bikers version http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/viennese_whirls_78348 The chocolate recipe i used was pierre hermes http://www.atkokken.com/2011/05/17/pierre-hermes-vienesse-chocolate-sables-chocolate-cookies-simple-sophisticated/ Cannot over stress the need for seriously softened butter, if your mix is too stiff It could knacker the press. I would highly recommend this press, particularly if like me you are a bit heavy handed with a piping bag (my viennese biscuits end up the size of mediumish scones when i pipe them)

Mixed success and I am not convinced it's just me
For the money, this offers a lot but I can't help thinking that success is very dependent on the biscuits you are making. The wetter doughs just get stuck to everything but the dryer ones, after some practice, come out quite well. I made some heart shaped shortbread which I dipped in chocolate and they went down well. The shapes consistency? Well, It was okay, at best. I wish everyone the best of luck with this device as I can imagine it working well for many people but I have since struggled to complete a tray of biscuits that been of similar shape. I've tried cookies, oat biscuits and raspberry/white chocolate cookies and have in all these cases ended up moulding by hand or with some traditional cookies cutters.

cookie heaven - but a bit difficult to clean the first time without instructions
I loved the idea of a cookie press - and this one seemed ideal. I used it the first time shortly after receiving delivery, and after I got into the swing of things found it ridiculously simple. The cookies are a perfect size for little treats or snacking, and look so cute! I did find the first time that when I changed the shape on the press (I wanted to try a few different ones) I had to press the dough through a few times before it started to stick to the (baking paper-covered rather than greased) cookie sheet and held its shape. However, the second time I used it, with a different cookie dough recipe, it came out properly. The only issue I have had with the cookie press is that through the info available tells you how to fill and use it, there were no cleaning instructions. The first time I used it I couldn't get it clean thoroughly inside - because I didn't know how to remove the plunger part to get to wash behind it. I discovered before I used the press the second time that if you use a thin knife between the tube of the cookie press and the plunger, you can really easily remove the plastic plunger and from that it is simple to clean! Now that is sorted...just have to try to find my favourite press cookie recipe!

Poorly made, broke on the second use
This is very poor quality, especially given the price. It worked okay the first time (give or take the fact the ends didn't have good grip, so were not that easy to get on and off, and mixture gets behind the plunger). However, even though we hand washed all the components in lukewarm water, when we tried to assemble it the second time the black plastic that holds the various nozzles in had split into two pieces and as a result the whole thing could no longer be assembled. You can see it wasn't brute force on our part - the outer circle of the plastic just came away from the centre part, and that means that they can all just slide through each other, and the hoop falls out the plunger, and the nozzle falls out the hoop. I can't understand why this wasn't made of something stronger or thicker. If you use this for something soft like buttercream, it might be okay, but it seems like the brittle plastic and flimsy metal components don't really stand up to firmer mixtures, or to repeated use. If 10% of reviewers say it broke, then there is clearly a quality issue with this product. Yet Amazon said that after 30 days we could only get a replacement, so we are waiting for that to see if the faulty part was made any better - but to be honest I wanted a refund.

Icing set not professional at all.
I would give no stars, but it does not accept. Absolute rubbish does not work and now I cannot return it.

galletas perfectas
