The Academy: 1 (The Academy Series) : Layton, T.Z.: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Good read - The young reader enjoyed the book. Review: Definitely a great book for a football fan! - I was unsure whether my 9 year old son would enjoy this book as there wasn't many pictures in the story and there is was alot of text. He is usually a fan of diary of the wimpy kid because of the illustrations within the book but my son was totally gripped by this book and quickly asked for me to buy the next in the series. He loved the theme of the story (he is an avid football fan) and found the wording easy to understand and the story was entertaining and easy to follow. I feel the price was a little on the expensive side but I happily bought all 3 books in the series. I would definitely recommend. I will hold on to this series for his younger brother. Give it a try for your little football fan.

Brilliant book for 11 year old grandson
Ordered books 1 and 2, as our two grandsons were coming to stay in half term. The 11 year old is a very reluctant reader but loves anything to do with football, so I thought these books were worth a try. Whilst staying with us I started reading the book to him, but he took to the story so well he asked to take them home and has been reading them whenever he gets a chance. Within two weeks he's nearly at the end of book two and desperate for book 3! Highly recommend.

Great Series for keen Footballers
My 11 year old footballing daughter loves this series and how the author describes excitingly how the matches are being played out - just a shame the books are so hard to get other than via Amazon. She's read them all and keen for the next one to be released! Note the author is American so children might not always understand some of the references.

Great book for a 10 year old.
My 10 year old son loved this. Am trying to encourage him to read novels as well as books like Wimpy Kid and Kid YouTuber and this really kept him interested - he kept asking for 5 mins more at night when reading and he probably read it in 2 weeks. Have ordered the second book and hopefully it’s as good.

Exciting and Inspiring book
Great book. The chapters were quite long but a very exciting read for our 8 year old, we enjoyed reading it too. We did have to make bedtime a little earlier at times though because he (and me lol) wanted to finish the whole chapter. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

A fantastic book series for football mad kids
The Academy stories are excellent and I would highly recommend them. The stories are very well written, with good knowledge and detail. They are written from an american point of view which is slightly annoying as a brit, but its in the context of the story so makes sense. My 10 year old absolutely loves reading these together and even though we are only half way through book 2, we have already bought the full set. I don't think you will find a better football based story series than this.

I bought it for my 12 y.o. and I asked him to review, that's what he wrote: The Academy I “So, I just finished reading The Academy I by T.Z. Layton, and honestly, it’s such a solid start to the series! The story follows Leo, this talented but kind of raw soccer player, as he joins a super competitive academy. What I loved most is how relatable his struggles are—balancing his dreams, self-doubt, and those intense rivalries with his teammates. The soccer scenes are written so well, whether you’re into the sport or not, and the relationships feel super real. It’s not just about the game but also about personal growth, and that’s what kept me hooked. The pacing slows down in a few spots, but by the time I hit the cliffhanger at the end, I was ready to jump straight into the next book. If you love sports fiction or just a good story, this one’s worth checking out!”
