Boys of Wartime: Will at the Battle of Gettysburg

My 9 year old said it was a very good book. In the middle of it he told me he had to have the next one.

My 3rd grader read this for school and insisted that I buy the book and read it, too, so that we could talk about it. It's the first book he's ever cared so much about and I love it! His teacher apparently had some "scenes" covered in their school books - there are a few parts that I'm guessing some parents might take issue with their child reading (it's about a war, after all). It's a great fictional story about a real war that helps kids understand what war is truly like and also helps them to remember a part of our history.

What a GREAT book! I read this with my son for a 5th grade assignment. This action kept us on our toes while giving us a great sense of sorrow for all that went on and how families paid dearly. Great book for the grade level and very awesome to use for projects!

I read this with two 10 year old boys for a summer book club. We enjoyed it very much. The story kept us interested and gave us new knowledge and a good perspective for what the war was like. I liked the fact that after actually seeing the gruesomeness and reality of war, Will re-examined his thoughts about war. We discussed how this is like playing violent video games or watching violence in movies and TV is different than actually experiencing it. A good read for students to learn about history and war.

Gave this as a birthday present to a 10 year old. He said it was so good he read it in two days. Just bought it again for my grandson who is 11 for a stocking suffer. We live in a town where a civil war battle took place so its a prominent topic here thus the boys here love reading.

I believe this is one of the best books I've read!!!!For my school we have something called the mark twain series ,This was one of them ! No wonder I love this book so much !

Read with my granddaughter....it was a summer reading assignment. She read it and then I read it and we had a discussion over lunch! Story makes you feel like you are there!

I loved the book it was good and if you wanted to learn about this war and what it was like I would definitely recommend this book

Excellent book for children told from the viewpoint of a 12 year old boy who lived through and experienced the horror of war, children will love the blood and guts gore of limbs being sawn off by the overworked surgeons. Will, the 12 year old hero of the story always wanted to be a drummer boy for the union army but that was before the battle for Gettysberg began and he must make a decision if this war is worth risking his life for.
