Product Description DVD includes: The making of Fantastic Mr Fox: (2 featurettes) The Look Of Fantastic Mr Fox. The Cast. A Beginner’s Guide To Whack-Bat desertcart.co.uk Review The visually ravishing animated movie Fantastic Mr. Fox follows a fox, voiced by George Clooney and dressed in a natty brown corduroy suit, as he cheerfully and recklessly takes his thieving ways a little too far and brings down the wrath of some sour-faced poultry farmers on his family and friends. Based on a book by children's author Roald Dahl (who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach), the movie is the work of Wes Anderson (writer-director of Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums), who expanded and elaborated on the original story; the combination is inspired. Anderson's sensibility--his fondness for meticulous compositions, coordinated colors, and narrative filigree--can sometimes seem finicky and stiff in live-action movies, but it's exquisitely suited to the painstaking art of stop-motion animation. Every corner of the screen crackles with visual invention and whimsical humor. The top-notch vocal cast (which also features Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Michael Gambon, Owen Wilson, and others) create vivid personalities that perfectly mesh with the movie's lush colors and luscious textures. Fantastic Mr. Fox is an off-beat gem, a giddy mix of adult emotional issues, wild animal behaviour, and childlike delight.--Bret Fetzer, desertcart.comStills from Fantastic Mr Fox (click for more from the stars)George Clooney Meryl Streep Jason Schwartzman Michael Gambon Owen Wilson Willem Dafoe Wally Wolodarsky Review: FANTASTIC MR FOX ~ Excellent movie , Excellent book !! - 5 stars for a great movie , bought this for my 7 year old son .. I have read the book to my son and he really enjoyed it . we have also watched fantastic mr fox on sky movies box office a bit a go and my son really enjoyed that .. so i bought the DVD for him .. such hard work and great detail has gone into making this movie , the actors voices match there characters , even though they are American actors doing the characters voices , that does not matter .. its such a excellent story and quite humorous & funny in places , great for children and adults .. this DVD has been watched quite a few times already in our house even though we've only had it 3 days .. great choice for anyone , the movie is slightly different from the book , but as i said before that does not matter .. if you like roald Dahl you will love this DVD .. the DVD can also be transferred to your ipod which is great .. so you can take Mr fox and his family anywhere with you .. Review: Sneaking into my top 10 - I took my six year old daughter to the cinema to see this and recall at the time thinking that she might not be enjoying it very much as it's far from the offerings that children of her age generally enjoy. She insisted she really liked the film, so it was duly added to her birthday list. I've now watched it several times with her and it has fast become one of my favourite films (and her's as well judging by the amount of times it's on our TV). I can see why reviewers hoping it to be loyal to the book will be disappointed, as will anyone hoping for an all-British cast, but to my mind neither issue should detract from a genuinely original offering. Wes Anderson uses the medium to create some great comic touches, but there are also lots of small moments that just make me smile over and over. It looks great and the soundtrack works perfectly - the Boggis, Bunce and Bean song stays with you for far too long. I urge you to give it a go without pre-judging if possible #and be prepared to re-visit it a few times).

underrated
this film is amazing and up there with the great films of 2009 (in the loop, synecdoche new york, where the wild things are etc...). anyone familiar with wes anderson will recognize his style instantly, and it lends itself perfectly to this traditionally made take on roald dahl's classic novel. i wouldn't say it's a kids film. the script is quite adult in it's underlying messages, only substituting any swear words with the word 'cuss', which is a bit weird at first, and the dialogue is absolute wes anderson genius, voiced brilliantly by bill murray and jason schwartzman in particular. it looks beautiful. it could easily have been made 50 years ago and would still look exactly like this. just goes to prove theres no need for disney 3d for a film look special, and this looks more special than anything else out there. everything about it is awesome! ive never written a review before but i just couldn't bear to see this films average brought down by unappreciative philistines. it makes me really sad that it seems a lot of people just don't get it. their loss.

A great film for big kids
I remember seeing the trailer for this and thinking 'oh no!' The reservations I had were with the animation style, casting and tone of the film, as presented in the trailer (as I remember it). However, these disappeared quickly when I sat down to watch the film with some friends. I am a fan of Wes Anderson's films, and believe the rhythm, tone and idiosyncratic writing that have become somewhat of a trademark for him are actually most effectively utilised and executed here, in a children's movie. Although, I'd argue it's not really a child's film, more so an indulgence of the child-like side of Anderson, his cast and the audience, should they wish their inner child to be so indulged. As many reviewers have detailed, this film adaptation is not particularly faithful to the source material. True enough. The film takes Dahl's work as a starting point and then runs with Anderson's imagination. The Fox family dynamic is as wonderfully realised as that of the Tenenbaums, if not more so. The fact that the film is animated perhaps gave the director even greater license to be, well, silly. The same could be said for the film's sweetness at times and the absurd level of violence that normally only cartoons can display for younger audiences (don't worry parents, it's never gruesome). Fantastic Mr Fox made me laugh, a really hearty and full laugh, and I enjoyed it immensely. Dahl's book likewise. I ask: So what if the film devieates from the source material and does not bring to the screen a word for word, page by page retelling of the book? Adaptations, by their nature, must adapt the original material to suit the medium they are moving to. Furthermore, it is nigh on impossible to satisfy each and every fan of a book. We will all have our ideas of how the characters should sound, how they should move and so on to the minutae of characterization. So, can it ever be correct to discount out of hand the interpretation of another, and their subsequent adaptation? Obviously I'm not going to lie and say I'm fine and comfortable with every film adaptation of a book I've loved on this basis (see most film versions of Alan Moore's work), but I do think some Dahl fans, particularly the older ones, could do with giving this film a chance on it's own merits. Let the original book be what it is, a fantastic piece of children's literature. Then, let this film be what it is, a charming, funny, quirky, eccentric, inventive, colourful and altogether different children's(ish) film.

Interesting... artsy. Lots of celebrity voices you'll recognize. Some adult themes, but in my opinion good for 10 years and up. We have a 'boys club house' and it has a DVD player - so I stock a few classics and I liked this one. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. All of my reviews reflect my honest, personal experience with the reviewed item - your experience may be different. I am not influenced by any outside source. I receive/accept NO free products or discounts that are not available to all shoppers- ever. I am a verified purchaser - not a compensated reviewer. I have been doing honest, trustworthy reviews for well over 25 years with Amazon - posting thousands and thousands of reviews - which have been viewed over 8.2 million times to date. I am NOT a fake reviewer. BOTTOM LINE: I pay for ALL my stuff, just like you do - with hard earned dollars!
