SONOS PLAYBASE Wireless Home Cinema Sound Base, White

I was reluctant to pay full price but the Black Friday deal of £100 off made it more palatable. As well as a high end 2 channel music system we have a Sonos system in various rooms around the house so this seemed like a perfect partner to what we already had. Due to the big 2 channel system we lack the space to accommodate a full AV speaker system. The unit comes beautifully presented in its box and a cover wrap (Think Apple style packaging). It sits perfectly under our Panasonic TV on a corner stand, looking smart but very discrete. It exudes high quality and has a heft and solidity that justifies the price. Nothing rattles, creaks or resonates and it can deliver a surprising amount of sound level and presence. It was simple to set up using the supplied Toslink cable. The only issue we had was trying to disable the TV speakers while being able to control the Playbase volume with the TV remote....on our TV we had to go into "hotel" mode and do it that way, but newer TVs will perhaps be easier. The improvement in sound has massively enhanced the experience of watching all kinds of TV programs, especially those with dramatic music or sounds, where it now seems there is a subwoofer in the room and sound partially envelops the listening position. They certainly did well to generate such decent bass from what is a shallow, small volume box. Some press reviews have mentioned an occasionally harsh treble that can take the edge off the sound but I have a decent ear and I haven't noticed this yet, although we don't really use the volume past approximately half-way. The surround effect is there but obviously not as full-on as from a full cinema system. We had a pair of Sonos Play 1's which I have placed on Flexon stands and set up as rear speakers so we really get a decent taste of proper surround sound. It may not match a full cinema system but it is fantastic for our needs and hardly takes up any space. It really enhances the sense of surround ambience compared to the Playbase alone and makes sense now the Play 1's are such good value. The versatility is fantastic as you can access your whole music library through the Sonos App and play music through both the Playbase and 2 rear speakers to give a wholesome and room-filling sound. I and the family are getting a lot of use from the Playbase and really enjoying the improvements it brings.

Recently bought my first sonos products, 2 Play 1's to be used in stereo and was blown away. I didn't realise how addictive it would become! I've bought this to add to the home setup replacing an old BOSE 2.1 system that I used with the tv. Honestly, the sound on this is great, for both tv and music. It compares to 2 separate speakers and a v large subwoofer in my old setup, taking up less space and looking better in the process. I haven't connected directly to my tv as it doesn't have an optical out, so the optical out for my htpc goes straight to the playbase. I've encountered no issues so far, speech is all in sync and when it detects the optical source, it switches to tv output on the playbase. V impressed and happy with my purchase. Yes, it is expensive, but it sounds, and looks like, a premium product, which, coupled with the ease of use of the app, makes it acceptable to the wife too!

What can i say I have made for a wired system of separate AV receiver and surroundsound wide set up was a bit apprehensive as not a fan of Sound bars but I’ve got the Sonos play bass and with the wall it’s got Santos bounce off it sounds amazing and surround but the wall that’s opening to the rest of the room the sound isn’t a surround sound so I will have to buy additional Sonos play one is to get for surroundsound experience but the sound quality from the Sonos play bass is amazing and the basic produces is brilliant I won’t need to separate sub at all. Very easy to inbox and set up just using the Sonos app can’t thought that all the tree pay feature is very easy with iPhone would recommend it to anyone

This is a wonderful piece of kit, a bit pricey but worth every penny. Setup was a easy, took 5 mins. Connected it to my smart TV and the audio was immensely transformed. Music streaming took another dimension, the sound is crisp and clear, the bass so deep and heavy (controllable). I stream most of my music library through the playbase when am not watching TV, my Sonos 5 is getting a breather. The Sonos Play 1 in the bedrooms are easily grouped and I can seamlessly change from Playbase to Sonos Play 1 as I go into my bedroom. I think I will get the Sub as a Christmas present to myself. Since introduction, Sonos wireless speakers have set an excellent benchmark which will stand the test of time. Great products.

Good service from Seller, and the sound is amazing, but Sonos made a big mistake with this soundbar and it was discontinued after only 3 years. There is no HDMI, so you can only ever get basic 5.1 surround sound from it over optical. No Dolby Digital Plus, no DTS, no Master Audio. This was an expensive mistake. :(

I have been a Sonos fan for many years! Sonos products have really solid built and they are really reliable! Love the great sound quality of this Playbase that has clarity, wide soundstage and strong bass, doesn't matter whether you are watching movies or music, it will sound amazing! The aesthetic value that it brings to the house is incredible as the design really compliments the TV console and it gels well with the TV! The Sonos App is super nice to use especially with the new and improved S2 version! The user experience of Sonos just keeps getting better over time! Highly recommended to get Sonos!

Read so much about Sonos system and their Sonos Playbase. This product is beyond my expectations. I was looking for a soundbar that will rest on my white tv console thus this caught my attention. the playbase blends in with my tv console. It's a neat design. The bass response from the playbase is better (from my opinion ) because it has a bigger base compared to the usual soundbar in the market. Tempted to buy more Sonos players to add on in my home. The design is sleek and nice. The sound is amazing and the bass is sufficient despite the slim design. Easy to set up.

Great sound. Amamzing product. This is second playbase. It is definitely worth the price tag. But price of this product is down twice. $100 dollars down in two days. You don’t feel good buying a product then!
