I would recommend this product. It is a very suitable replacement if you need to play VHS - C tapes. It has decent build quality, with a metal base plate and a good working mechanism. I'm using it with JVC VHS-C tapes and it works a treat. The capstons are held in place by locking Jaws. Whilst this helps to stabilise the capstons during playback and winding in the VCR, I have noticed that on a couple of occasions the tape did not load correctly in the adapter and the Jaws failed to lock correctly. This gives the impression that the left hand spindle is bent ; but actually you just need to unload and reload the tape in the adapter. ( I noticed some other review comments that mention bent spindle...., I think this may have been the problem.). If you hear a clicking sound from the VHS-C tape during loading into the adapter then that might be an indication it hasn't loaded properly. You can help this, by doing the following - as soon as you have shut the lid on the adapter depress the left cog underneath (usually white) in a little to help the loader. If you looking to dig out your old camcorder tapes and watch/ convert them, then this tape adapter is just the job! (just try not to laugh/cry too much when watching your little one's eating a lemon for the first time! ;)

After testing two slightly cheaper Chinese clones and returning them, I opted for this brand having purchased items from them many years earlier of very good quality. I wasn't disappointed - SVHS-C cassettes loaded into the bay with ease and laced up perfectly. Also unlaced correctly and cassette ejected from the adapter bay without difficulty. If you treasure those old fragile tapes then opt for this HAMA unit and save yourself a load of hassle and get perfect results everytime..

I liked this product, it works and I have been able to watch my old camcorder tapes from many years ago. I feel it is over priced however it is old technology and I was willing to pay to watch my old tapes back 😁

To date I have had two of these items (the second was an Amazon replacement) and BOTH developed faults after just a few uses. Both items seized up and would not pre-load VHS-C cassette tapes, prior to use in a VHS player. Functionally, almost nil. The VHS-C used were standard JVC cassettes. This is MY experience and may or not be typical of the item. Maybe the Seller would like to comment, replace (again!) or refund?

I find this adaptor an amazing idea because you can play VHS-C tapes. Without it, it would render VHS-C cassettes useless (unless you still have a compatible cam). I got this on 29th April and had to return it on 30th. It worked for a bit, but when I ejected the cassette, it was chewed up and wrapped around a spool. I managed to get the cassette out. Also, when I wanted to try a 2nd one (just in case the cassette was an issue, but strongly doubt it), the button to release the door was loose and wouldn't operate the mechanism. It has packed up. The plastic this is made out of is really cheap quality. It is light in weight and feels inferior. For £29.98, I expect better value for money. When I initiated a return I was was offered a replacement or refund. I opted for refund as I will try a different make. Why is everything such poor quality nowadays?

I bought this to replace our official JVC VHS-C to VHS converter broke. I was a little wary as my Mum had previously purchased a tape adapter (unsure of make/model, probably not this one) and it had got jammed in her VHS player, however I tested this as soon as it arrived and all the mechanisms work correctly and I can now play my VHS-C tapes in the VCR. The converter feels solid, not at all flimsy. I would definitely recommend this product. Be aware it takes a AA battery in order to work.
