Does this work if you're not in the same room as the socket???

As others have said, it will work in other rooms if you are not too far away. The signal does not require line-of-sight as the signal is not infra-red (IR) but rather a radio signal.

Ive managed to loose the instructions on how to pair the remote and socket. I remember it being very easy but havent managed it. Can anyone remind me?

Turn the socket off at the wall socket it is plugged into, so that it is not receiving any power and the red light is off. Wait for 15 seconds or so, then switch the wall socket back on. The red light on the remote socket should now blink intermittently, meaning it can be paired to the remote control by pressing your chosen number.

How do I un pair the remote from one device to use with another?

You don't need to un-pair. With the new plug make sure it is plugged in. Press the little button on the side. Then on the remote press and hold both the on and off buttons at the same time and hold for 10 seconds then release. The new plug will be assigned to the on off buttons you have just used.
