Really chef approved.
I’m a French pastry chef, I’m angry at the amount of torches I have had to buy as the expensive “chef approved” brands fall apart after a year of use. This is the only one I have had that has lasted longer, currently 3 years in. Simple, powerful, compact, and most importantly does its job.

Finished 1st in a shootout of 4 butane micro torches
MICRO TORCHES REVIEW I was unable to decide on which of the many butane micro torches I should buy from Amazon, and I couldn’t trust the ad claims or flame pictures, so I ended up buying 4 to test then against each other. I have lots of larger torches of various sizes, but I wanted one with the smallest, most focused flame. The pictures in the ads of the flames was not, where pictured at all, was not useful to me or accurate. Price was not a factor for me in this. 1. Blazer ES1000CR Spitfire https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EDU5NY Made in Japan. This one has very cumbersome controls. Lighting it is a very awkward process requiring two hands and rolling an interlock forward whole pushing down on a button. Lighting it also requires 3 other controls to be in the right positions. The controls also feel rather flimsy. The flame is OK There is very little variation in the flame between minimum and maximum. It does have a button for continuous operation, but again, it feels rather flimsy. It was also the second most expensive at $53. Really the most expensive when you consider all the extras the $56 Dremel comes with. 2. Bernz-O-Matic ST2200T https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PS9TQI Made in Taiwan. The listing for this product falsely states, in two places, “The product is manufactured in United States”. I did not appreciate the false/out-of-date information. The controls are much less cumbersome than the Blazer. It has a child lockout for the igniter, presumably brought to us courtesy of CPSC. If you don’t have kids and want to get rid of this, it looks like it would be very easy to just snap off a piece of plastic and be done with it. The torch is easy to use. There is not much difference between the minimum and maximum flames. The flame is a bit larger than the Blazer. I wanted the smallest flame, so this was a negative for me. The instructions are printed on the side of the main tube, which is handy. It also includes a soldering iron tip. $32 3. Dremel 2200-01 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MJW07Z0 Made in Taiwan. Includes a decent thin metal box containing lots of accessories. If you don’t already have soldering equipment, this might be the best choice for you. It comes with a detachable stand; all the others come with a fixed base stand. The flame comes out at an upward angle, which all the others have a flame coming out at 90 degrees. This may be a plus or minus for you. This one, like the Bernz-O-Matic, comes with a plastic child lockout that looks like it could be broken off and discarded if you don’t want that feature. This one got second place in the biggest difference between minimum and maximum flames. The maximum flame was the largest of all tested, so if you’re looking for max flame, this is the one for you. At $56, the most expensive, but it comes with a lot more accessories than the others. Both the Dremel and the Bernz-O-Matic could easily be started using one hand, even with the child interlock. The Bernz-O-Matic was probably a bit easier to light with one hand. Both of them featured instant-off flame when you releaser the button, with a lock to engage for continuous flame. 4. RAVS RBT018 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5RKWNMS?th=1 Made in China. With the first three, you press the igniter button to turn on the gas and light it. The flame stays on only as long as you continue holding down the button (unless you engage the continuous lock). As soon as you release the button (or the continuous lock) the gas is cut off and the flame goes out. Probably more “consumer-safe” for people who don’t really know what they’re doing with a torch. This one is a bit different from the first three, in that it operates more like a typical propane torch. There is a rotary knob that you turn CCW to turn the gas on or CW to turn it off. So you turn the gas on, then press the igniter button to light the gas. You adjust the flame from min to max by using the rotary knob. The flame stays on until you turn the rotary knob fully CW to shut off the gas. So perhaps a bit less “safe” for those who don’t really know how to operate a torch safely. This one also felt a bit heavier and more substantial that the others. Apparently it uses more metal and less plastic. It also had, BY FAR, the most adjustable flame, from less than half what the others could produce (like down to about ¼” flame for some really fine work) to considerably more than their maximum flame. This one was also the cheapest at only $22. It’s also made in China. Normally, I will go to great lengths and spend considerably more to buy USA-made products, with probably Japan second and Taiwan third. However, for MY specific requirements, this Chinese RAVS was the clear choice for me.

Great little torch for grilling
I use this to light my fire starters on my charcoal grill. It does a great job in that role. The flame is hot and easy to control. It's easy to refill as well, and it feels pretty well-built. We also used it to toast some sugar on creme brulee for dessert, and it did a solid job with that, too. Great buy overall.

Great little torch - highly recommended!
Easy to use. Easy to refill. Easy to light. Easy to control the torch intensity. I'll buy one again in an instant - whether I'm caramelizing food or torching wisps off my 3D prints. Do get a couple refill cans though. Inexpensive to keep on hand.

Ravs Butane Torch
Based on recent item received today: I give this 4stars for now based on packaging and quality of item. 1st: the item was packaged well and received with no damage. 2nd: after closely examining the item it seems like a quality torch. Even though some of the parts are plastic, such as the valve adjustment knob, the upper torch spring knurled knob, not sure what that does, but it will slightly turn which there is a spring between that and the flame nozzle. 3rd: it has a nice metal base and rubber hand grip. Overall quality is nice for the price. After filling the torch with BernzOmatic butane, I let it settle for one minute before striking the flame. It worked first strike and thereafter. Like I said, I give this 4stars only because I haven’t had it long enough to give all 5 star rating. The test will come after long use. For now, I would recommend this item due to its quality and features that are easy to follow and use. It comes with a 2year warranty which is good for me, easy to follow along instructions, product care email address for customer support.

Versatile and Reliable – A Must-Have Kitchen Tool!
I recently purchased the "Butane Torch Lighter, DUAL Flame Mode Kitchen Torch" and I am absolutely delighted with it! This kitchen torch has become a game-changer for both my culinary and non-culinary needs. First off, the dual flame mode is incredibly versatile. The regular flame is perfect for gently toasting and giving a beautiful finish to dishes like crème brûlée and marshmallows, while the stronger flame comes in handy for more intense tasks like searing meat or even starting a grill. The adjustability of the flame is seamless, making it easy to switch between tasks without any hassle. The build quality of the torch is commendable. It feels sturdy and well-made, reassuring me that it will last a long time. The safety lock is a thoughtful addition, ensuring that the torch is child-safe and prevents accidental ignition, which is a huge plus in a busy kitchen. Refilling the torch is straightforward, and it holds enough butane to last through several cooking sessions. Its ergonomic design makes it comfortable to hold and use, which is great for when you're using it extensively. I've found it not only useful in the kitchen but also for DIY projects around the house, like small repairs where precision heating is required. It's reliable, efficient, and delivers exactly what it promises. In summary, if you’re looking for a kitchen torch that offers both performance and reliability, this is the one to go for. It’s a quality tool that I’d recommend to anyone in need of a good butane torch. Happy cooking and torching!

Perfect for Cigars.
This torch is perfect for lighting cigars. The flame this torch provides is precise, burns hotter, and is instantly adjustable which makes it perfect for toasting the foot, lighting, and trimming. Due to the nature of the flame, all of these processes are much faster than with any regular pocketable torch lighter. Toasting: As the flame is precise and can be dialed down, toasting evenly happens quickly without seeming to carry too much heat into the body of the cigar. Lighting/Relighting: The side of the narrow flame burns as equally hot, so quickly gets this done. No real amount of contact is necessary. So you can light a cigar without pointing the flame directly at your face. Trimming: As the flame is narrow and very hot it cuts better and much more precisely than regular lighters in my experience. With the point of the flame, you can quickly cut through wrapper, binder, and fillers with ease; unlike a regular lighter which seems to burn with less heat and can scorch the binder more easily beyond where you would prefer. Trimming is much faster and cleaner with this torch. Filling: Messy. When it's full it sprays Butane all over the place. That's how you know it's full. I have two of these and they both do the same thing. It works so well for my application that I have made my peace with the messy filling issue. Adjustability: Perfect for the application. It puts out a small flame - smaller than pocket lighters - to a flame about two inches long. Softer flame (think Bic), to pinpoint savagery (which works great for cigars) and any mixture of the two by dialing the little black air regulator held in place by the spring on the barrel. Drawbacks: Filling, Messy. No window to gauge fuel, though this will light a lot of sticks... A LOT on a single fill. Not pocketable, but perfect to sit next to your favorite chair. I occasionally move the flame adjustment regulator, or it's moving by itself with use. But if the flame isn't burning like it used to, check that little black collet because it may have moved restricting air into the mix. Ease of use: Both of mine work flawlessly. After a while, I found I could turn the regulator on and off with my thumb and ignite the flame with one hand. The always-on feature until you turn it off, which I thought was going to be an issue, isn't. For the application of lighting cigars, it works better for me because I don't need to keep my thumb depressed as you do with a regular lighter and I can adjust the flame size on the fly with the use of my thumb. Besides its drawbacks, it's still a five-star lighter for the application I use it for. I certainly recommend it.

Great feel, but…(updated review)
UPDATE: 4/10/25, they get a 5-star for trying to help. Unfortunately I couldn’t return the favor - I tossed the torch in the recycling bin some time ago and it’s long gone, no way for me to send it to them so they can test what made it leak so badly. They also offered a refund; but I thought with this tariff war going on, everybody is going to be losing…I can’t miss what I don’t have (and it’s not like it was $100); therefore I wanted them to just keep there refund. Good faith, one kindness deserves another. Also also, they offered to send me a new one but I couldn’t accept that either. I needed a mini torch and ordered a different replacement, don’t have a need for two. I couldn’t even accept it and gift it away as nobody I know needs or uses one. Really kind of them to try. Everywhere some products come out with faults or defects. If you’re going to open it once you receive it to see if it works, you should be able to return it if it doesn’t. I just missed the window by the time I got around to trying it with a project I was working on. FWIW, the replacement I got does not feel as nice in the hand as this one did. ORIGINAL REVIEW (2-star original): I can’t give it a 1. It looks really cool. The fit and feel is nice in the hand, good hold, nice weight. AND IT’S PURPLE!!! That said, however, no matter what I did the butane leaked out. When it was completely full you could literally hear the hiss of the leak. Yes, I did make sure the valve knob was turned completely to “close” as hard as I could with my fingers. I thought maybe my hand/knuckles weren’t working right because they were already hurting before I tried the torch so I grabbed pliers and REALLY made sure I tightened it. Nope, failed again, all the fuel leaked out and it still hissed when I completely filled the torch. I could not try the lock feature. I can’t offer an opinion on it. It seemed very stable just standing there so I’d imagine if yours works that would be great to have both hands available to hold a project. As it was leaking, I did light it and the flame seemed fair - not particularly strong but not weak either. The value for the money was not good. If it DID work though, it would’ve been well worth the purchase. I’m sad about tossing it but it was unusable. I really really liked the look, color and feel. It fit in my hand perfectly. YRMV - let’s hope yours works though.
