Best notebooks I know of (& I'm super picky about notebooks).
I'm a very particular person about some things - and one of those things is notebooks & paper. I love the Black n Red notebooks. The main reason I love this brand - the paper. It's quality, thick paper - 24lb - instead of your usual 20lb (or less) notebook paper. This is the type of paper your pen ink will not bleed through (unless you're using a sharpie or something). I can actually use both sides. the idea of a quick note is that it's something you can glance at & quickly get the information of the note. When ink bleeds through paper I have a very hard time as the page is then cluttered with this ghost text from what I've written on the other side. Never a problem with the Black n Red notebooks. This one is the perfect size for something like a purse - and a pen will fit perfectly into the spiral (pen I use are the uniball ones - it's almost like this notebook was made for those). The little strap keeps it from flapping around...the one thing that would make this better - if they offered this size with a hard cover. Anything in my purse endures some major abuse as it's jostled & tossed around - a hardcover would make this so much better (& yes I know it would cost a bit more - but their hardcover 8x5 is only $5.99). And another awesome bit is the amazon price - I was so happy to see amazon offering such great prices on these (current price is $4.19 as an add-on item). Used to have to go to staples or office max to get these (at marginally higher prices) - but now they come to my door & I even save a tiny bit!!

Excellent Spiral Notebook for Heavy Duty Use AND for Fountain Pen Users!
I've been hunting for either a A4 or Letter (or equivalent) sized ruled notebook mainly for fountain pen use. I've been using Five Star 1 subject notebooks for a while, but their quality has been slowly going downhill. Every other page, the toothing is in the opposite direction, or the fibers are different. Very annoying. One sheet could be good, and the next 3 might be horrible. In any event, I prefer Rhodia, the paper is nice, but the notebook construction is less than desirable. Also, there is no margins in the Rhodia. I also tried the Clairefontaine Classic, but it's construction wasn't too much better. The paper was OK, but not like the Rhodia. I also tried a Maruman Mnemosyne N199 A4, and for it's price it wasn't worth it. I didn't like how the top of the pages were setup, nor was the construction much better. This Black n' Red notebook is in a different league. The paper feels just like the Rhodia (maybe between the Rhodia and the Clairefontaine Classic, but more towards the Rhodia), but it's got the ruling and the lines setup just right. Similar to the Five Star notebooks. It also absorbs the ink without feathering, and it makes even my wettest ink dry rapidly. The price is great! Cheaper than the others I tried (with the exception of the Five Star). As for what I usually use to write in the notebooks: TWSBI ECO, Parker Jotter, VAC700R, Lamy Al-Star, occasionally my Jinhao X750 with a custom Goulet gold nib. They are all medium nibs, and all using Noodler's EEL Black. Right now I'm finishing up my last few pages in my Five Star, and I'll report back if I notice anything weird or different that messing around on the first page as a test page. But for now, the notebook is the best I've used.

Great To Use On the Run or at Home
This is my second purchase of this little "book." My older one had pages that could be taken out by pulling down on it. I didn't care for that because I'm a bit of a klutz and would accidentally tare pages off. It also was divided in three sections. This "book" doesn't have those features. I couldn't tell for sure until it arrived. I'm very pleased that this is a spiral "book" with lined sheets that are a good weight and has tough covers. It is easy to use and carry because of it's size.

My go-to notebook
This is my go-to notebook. - paper is thick enough to write on both sides without too much show-through - the size is just right to fold an 8.5x11" sheet of paper in half and tuck it inside - good quality spiral lays flat when open - my pen fits inside the spiral and clips onto the spiral to stay in place - the pages are perforated, so they tear out easy with clean edges Only downside is that the perforations seem to be a little weaker on my latest notebook. I used to use the hardcover version - maybe the flexible poly cover pulls on the perforations and weakens them...? This poly cover looks a lot sharper than the hardcover, though. The hardcover version shows wear over time and can get to looking a little banged up. The poly cover looks good as new to the end. Although...I don't use the elastic band because it seems like it's a little too tight. If it was used daily, I could see where the elastic might bend the corners. They should replace the elastic band with a bookmark, IMHO.

My favorite notebook
My favorite notebook. Hard cover. Light weight but sturdy. Writes in smoothly. Good for sticking tabs too and keeping my work organized. Love the band to keep it shut. Perfect notebook sized.

Finally a decent quality, medium sized note book. The cover is a durable stiff plastic material bound by double rings and held closed by an elastic riveted to the back cover. The paper is top quality, heavy weight, bright white that is perfect for fountain pen use. I noticed no bleed-through or feathering; the bane of fountain ink. The only downfall would be that it is limited to 70 pages. I would have expected more for the price. But that said, I will probably buy it again.

I cannot go back to regular notebooks as I am purely a pen user. I didn't know a notebook with thicker paper would help with bleeding and neatness. I am by no means an enthusiast in writing, penmanship, or calligraphy but this does the job for everyday notes. The quality for the price makes this a 5-star value. Highly recommend this to any students -- the tear away pages make it easy to create study guides!
