I'm thinking they changed the product recently to not have the plastic film on it anymore, because I didn't have to deal with that (thank goodness, it was a pain with these types of poles). I bought 2 packs this last time, and neither had the film These are also the only types of moss poles I will use since they retain moisture for so long. I hated moss poles for the longest time because I tried to use circular ones, and they would dry out within a day, so if you're new to moss poles, I would highly recommend this type over circular ones. I have a tropical grow tent, and most of my moss-pole plants are ones I'm trying to increase in size, so the constant drying out of other poles is not conducive to that. Plus, the shape makes it easier to rehydrate with a sprayer (I use a weed-sprayer) without spraying water everywhere. The price (at the time of this review in the mid $20s CAD), is not outrageous in my opinion, because they are well worth it. They are also easy to add onto when your plants get too tall.

Wish I’d read the reviews before buying, horrible, cheap flimsy plastic you have to put together yourself. Which doesn’t go together nicely whatsoever
