In this inspirational compilation of projects and plans from Furniture & Cabinetmaking magazine, quintessential British cabinetmaker Mark Ripley offers practical guidance, with some refreshing and innovative approaches and tricks of the trade. Marks furniture has classic vernacular lines which give it broad appeal, and his work is achievable and not too challenging for a competent furniture maker. With projects ranging from a simple dining table to a grand, more ambitious Robert Adams-style breakfront bookcase, there is something here for all tastes and abilities. 30 varied projects are each explained fully and complemented with fine photography and detailed plans. Review: Great insight - A great insightful read that shows clearly a number of individual processes that go towards building a variety of items. You may not like some of the finished styles of furniture but you can use any one of greatly demonstrated techniques to build your own designs. Angled mortise and tenons, using a jig to shape chair backs, information n grain direction etc. A great resource. Review: Just how great the book is - This is one of the best books of this type the photos are clear the plans are clear , the description of the items are great but I think it would only be useful to a proficient crafts person but it is a great book to look at and would advise any cabinet maker to have in there reference library. Thank you for a great book

Making Furniture: Projects and Plans
This book is a great volume. Mark is a genuine craftsman in every sense. The projects all are well designed and beautifully made, looking at the photographs in the book. The text describes each project in some detail together with traps for the unwary. The only thing missing for each project is a cutting list, but a well-versed craftsman wanting to try to replicate Mark's excellence should be able to develop his own list. I intend to make a few projects and I whole-heartedly recommend this book to cabinetmakers of intermediate or better skill.

Very good book, with excellent design suggestions
Very good book, with excellent design suggestions, joinery details, and excellent illustrations for making chairs sturdier. I was hoping to find a perfect design for DR chairs, but did not. However, I think I can make them, with some changes in design. Well worth buying second hand!
