HycoFrost Protector CH-200

Good product but information misleading
The first heater to be delivered had a faulty thermostat. However this was quickly replaced by the suppliers without question. The heater appears to work well, but the illustration and information on the website is misleading. The heater has to be installed vertically, not horizontally as per the picture, and must have at least 300mm space around it on all sides. This means it is not suitable for very small spaces eg cupboards etc. You only find this out after you have bought it and read the installation instructions....

but first the good points. This is a cheap
I have some criticisms, but first the good points. This is a cheap, compact heater that does the job. I have it in a 8' x 10' summerhouse and it has kept the internal temperature above zero when it has been frosty outside (but only after a lot of fiddling with the thermostat setting). When it arrived one mounting bracket was slightly bent. No problem to straighten, but it suggests the packaging is not all it might be.The product description on the website states that it has a neon power-on indicator, and this is also stated in the instruction booklet. Mine doesn't. Annoying, as I would like to be able to see when it is on.The instruction booklet states that wall plugs and screws are supplied with the unit. Mine came without any fixings.More serious, the instruction booklet said to drill two holes 10cm apart for the upper brackets. I did so, only to discover that the hole centres of the brackets are 10.5cm apart. My unit is mounted on metal struts, and I was able to turn the holes into slots (with some cursing) to fit the brackets, but this would be more of a problem if mounting the unit on masonry. The instruction booklet gives brief guidance on setting the thermostat to maintain a desired temperature, but has nothing about how to use the heater for frost protection, which is bizarre considering that it is sold as a frost protection heater. You might think it was obvious that the thermostat should be set to minimum, but in fact that didn't work. I had to go out at midnight when it was beginning to freeze and set the thermostat to come on at that point, which turned out to be significantly above the minimum setting. Then I found that the heater was still on when the temperature was 8°, but if it is turned down it cannot keep the temperature above zero when it gets colder. Maybe trial and error is the only method of setting the thermostat for frost protection, but in that case surely the instruction booklet should say so, and give some guidance. So the heater is OK but the instruction booklet is not.

Better for smaller areas i think.
Bought this to try a raise the temperature in a 8 x 10 shed.Probably a bit ambitious at only 200w as it hasn't really made a difference.Good construction though, looks as though it would last.No indicator light as stated though

Works well a little fiddly to set the temperature but ...
Works well a little fiddly to set the temperature but once set works well Using it in a pouch to keep the frost of the plant in there worked well last Winter hopefully do's the same this year.

Excellent heater
Bought this heater for a small but freezing downstairs loo. It's very compact so easy to find a suitable place to mount it. Have tried other heaters but either ineffective or too fierce. This one is perfect.

Great for Greenhouse protection.
Mounted on a board in our small greenhouse. We've had the first couple of frosts and it has worked perfectly on the lowest, frost-free setting. When the temperature really dips, we may turn the heat up a bit though.

Better than a tube heater!
I've bought 5 of these now for various areas on my boat. They arrive well packaged and on time. The thermostats function well although each vary position vs temperature. So set each one individually. The circulate the warm air better than a tube heater,

For frost protection only
Well made sturdy little heater but suitable for frost protection only. It did not give out enough heat so I am not using it. Gave it away and bought a 2000w heater instead.
