Elite book boyfriend right here and BEAUTIFUL story.
The Right Move by Liz Tomforde -Windy City Series Book 2- 5/5⭐️ Ryan FREAKIN’ Shay. I was told he was elite book boyfriend material and he did not disappoint. This book has me feeling all the things and I couldn’t put it down. •My Blurb• Professional basketball player, Ryan Shay prefers to be alone and stay in control. He was betrayed in the past and this is how he protects himself. When his twin sister begs him to let her best friend stay with him until she can find her own place, Ryan very reluctantly agrees. Indy is floundering after discovering her long time ex cheating on her. She’s homeless and desperately trying to save money so it’s worth staying with grumpy Ryan even when he’s only ever seen her at her worse. Having chaotic Indy in his personal space is wrecking Ryan’s orderly life but when his new position as captain is questioned, Ryan decides to ask Indy to be his fake girlfriend to help his image. Living together and an insane amount of chemistry quickly begins to blur the lines between reality and pretending BUT if they can find a way to work through their past baggage, this fake relationship might be more than they ever hoped. •My Thoughts• “Sometimes the quietest love is the loudest.” ::sigh:: Don’t mind me, I’m just a puddle on my virtual fainting couch over here. Ryan Shay was all that is grumpy and “blinders on” focused but oh did that man know how to show his feelings. I loved the opposites attract dynamic and their banter was fabulous. I found Indy hilarious and really enjoyed all of her comebacks and cheeky text messages. I love how Liz Tomforde writes characters with such depth and who deal with realistic, hard things. The support our MCs show for each other and the underlying message of finding people who love you for who you are was absolutely beautiful. This book was spicy - almost a slow burn with the tension and buildup but once things started happening it was intense, explicit and often. Perhaps a little too much spice for my personal preference but gosh, I loved the story and the characters so much that it was still very much a 5 star read for me. This was really great, definitely recommend! Content warning: discussion of and on page memories of cheating ex, betrayal, infertility j

Slam Dunk for this Sports Romance with one of my FAV BOOK BFS!!!!
I have had the HONOR of meeting and falling in love with some AMAZING book boyfriends this year- so first off thank you to everyone else who has read this book as it encouraged me to see what all the fuss was about. This book was FANTASTIC!! I enjoyed book one, but this one was on another level for me. And OMG Ryan Shay was PERFECTION. I have decided to create a list of my fav book boyfriends because of how inspired I was by Ryan. This man yall. He was so guarded and icy- I wondered what would happen when the walls fell. I was not expecting what I saw. He was beyond tender, and thoughtful and terrified of being hurt. He just wanted to be someone that someone could care about for him, not for his status or his job. Enter Indy. Ryan's sister's best friend who has just broken up with her boyfriend of forever and now needs a place to stay. The chemistry between these two was legit OFF THE CHARTS! The buildup was epic. The way they were both so curious about each other but wary at the same time. Liz just killed it. Indy is beyond uncomfortable with her current situation. Because her ex boyfriend of forever has cheated on her, she now needs a place to stay and has found herself basically forced on her best friend's brother. Oh and her brother- he is Ryan Shay. Yes that Ryan Shay- the main man in Chicago for our basketball team. He also happens to hate Indy. She is convinced- she doesn't blame him with the fact the he has seen her throw up and sobbing. Yet he is letting her live with him. Of course he has rules. Rules she finds absurd but can deal with. She tries to crack his icy exterior to no avail, but everything changes when they come to an agreement to fake date. He is going to go to her friend's wedding as her plus one because her ex will be there, and Indy will help Ryan out with his GM who thinks his image as a family man could use some work. No problem right? Except wrong because Ryan is gorgeous! And now she starts seeing all of these little things he is doing for her- like buying her coffee or flowers. She wants to do things with him in the worst way but doesn't think she has anything else to give him. They toe the line so many times until things happen and MAN Indy was not expecting what Ryan told her. Now she is even more aware of her attraction to him and how big of a deal it would be if things happened. She is starting to realize she may have more to give to this beautiful, sweet man than she realized. But will he believe her intentions with everything he has gone through? Ryan likes his life. He plays ball. Comes home and relaxes. He doesn't really go out with the team anymore. It is too stressful to go out with where his level of fame is now. No he is content to be alone. But then he can't say no to his sister. So when she asks if her best friend, Indy, can live with him for a minute, he finds himself saying yes. And then immediately questioning what he agreed to. Because now all of the order he has given himself is turning into cute chaos. There are the things in his living room, the chaos of her room. The chaos that is her and yet she is stunning. He knows this but of course nothing can happen. His walls are too high. But when his GM starts questioning if Ryan is in it for the right reasons he finds himself making a deal with Indy. She will be his sunshine of a girlfriend and he will be her plus one to piss of her ex. The problem is that now that they are dating in the open, lines are starting to get blurred at home. Like how much he wants to kiss her. How much he just wants her. But he can't. He has been too burned before. But he is only human so when things happen between them he goes with it. And WOW is it hot. Now they are teetering on something real and his walls have completely been smothered. But when Indy runs into her ex again will she know how he feels about her? And does she feel the same way too? He is starting to realize how much he can't live without her. He just has to show her he is for real. I had so many emotions reading this book. I was heartbroken for both Ryan and Indy. The heartbreak and betrayal they both went through was just UGH. I was on the edge of my seat like a giddy little girl reading all of this tension waiting for it to explode. And then the first spicy scene between them where they barely touched was somehow hotter than a lot of other spicy scenes I have read. My heart was mushy when I read about all of the ways that Ryan was slowly but surely taking care of Indy. How he was gathering her to him without either of them even realizing it. And at the end after their third act breakup thing when he drops his longterm plan on her and how long he has been planning it- well I basically screamed with joy!!! If you haven't picked up this series, I can't recommend it enough! We had some nice cameos from Zanders and Stevie. Oh and I can't wait to read book 3 and meet this nanny and baseball player.

Deserves the Hype!
The Right Move by Liz Tomforde deserves the hype around it. This book took me by surprise in the best way—I absolutely loved these characters, both individually and together. Ryan and Indy’s relationship felt like such a breath of fresh air because it was built on a foundation of friendship, and mutual respect. I loved how their connection unfolded slowly, allowing them to truly know each other before anything romantic even entered the equation. Their dynamic was so steady and intentional, and it made their relationship feel even more special. Indy is hands down one of my favorite FMCs in a while. I admired how sure of herself she was—confident in her career, clear about what she wanted out of life, and unwilling to settle for anything less. She had such a quiet strength about her that made her incredibly easy to root for. But she also had this really soft, charming side that made her feel so real—like the kind of person you’d want to be friends with in real life. And then there’s Ryan… oh, Ryan. The stoic, guarded, secretly soft basketball player who quietly took care of Indy in ways that made my heart ache. I loved how thoughtful he was, always anticipating what she needed without making a big show of it. The way he protected her without ever making her feel weak was one of my favorite things about him. He wasn’t perfect—far from it—but that only made him feel more authentic. Watching him slowly let his walls down for Indy was such a satisfying journey. As much as I adored their relationship, I have to be honest—this wasn’t a five-star read for me. The story introduced some really complex, emotional conflicts for both characters, but I don’t think those struggles were explored as deeply as they could’ve been. Certain moments felt like they were resolved too quickly, especially considering how significant they were to Ryan and Indy’s personal growth. I wanted to sit in those heavier moments a little longer and see the characters work through them in a more layered way. One thing I didn’t expect was how much I would love Stevie and Zee in this book. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of Mile High, but they completely won me over here. Their playful, supportive presence added the perfect balance to the story, and honestly? They made me excited to keep going with this series. Overall, this book was a solid 3.75 stars for me. Even though I wish some of the emotional arcs had been fleshed out more, I can't deny how much I loved these characters and how invested I was in their journey. Liz Tomforde writes chemistry and connection so well, and while I’m not sure her books will ever be five-star reads for me personally, she’s creating characters that genuinely stay with me—and sometimes, that’s even better. I’m definitely excited to keep going with this series!

SOOO GOOOD !
OH MY GOD!!! This book has quickly become one of my favorites for sports romances. I had a really good feeling about Indy and Ryan when they first appeared in Mile High, and based only on their brief exchanges in that book, I knew that I would love their book. Oh my gosh, indigo. She is a book girlie, which I ADORE! She mentioned her love of reading and what good book boyfriends do, which I found to be really endearing. Every chapter of her book seemed to connect with me on such a profound level that I fell in love with her right away. She was such a relatable hopeless romantic, which I adored. Ryan Shay as well. Oh my god, this man. He is among my top 5 book boyfriends without a doubt. This man is outstanding in every way! I would do anything to have a somebody in my life like him. Ryan is a bit of a grump and is very career-focused, perhaps a bit too much, but he gradually softened and fell for Indy. There was no question Ryan was doing anything other than falling in love with her. He sincerely loved her in a quiet but strong way. In every way he could, he adored her. Ryan showed Indy such unique and distinctive affection that it made my heart swell with joy (and what he did for her parents... melted my heart). Both Indy and Ryan have such tragic pasts. Finding out more about each of them just confirmed in my mind how ideal a match they are. They were really wonderful friends. Their relationship was passionate, lovely, and powerful. Their sweet exchanges were breathtakingly lovely. They had some really good and hot moments. SOOO GOOOD ! My current favorite book couple is Ryan and Indy, and I would do anything to be in their relationship. With this book, Liz Tomforde hit the mark. I was so emotionally and mentally immersed in this narrative, these characters, and their life because of the gorgeous, fantastic language. Simply said, it was wonderful. I have no doubt that her next book will be excellent. I’m really looking forward to Kai and Miller's story!

Miscommunication! 🙄
I want to start by saying I love Ryan, I love Indy, and I love them together. The way they seem like an opposites-attract situation on the surface but are revealed to be more similar than you’d initially expect is so fulfilling. This is the book that got me interested in the series, and I was excited to start it as soon as I finished book 1 (which was amazing, fyi). So, overall, I do think this book is worth reading if you’re into the characters or the series. The payoff is there, and I’m so glad the couple got their happy ending. However, so much of this book was just PAINFUL to read because of the excessive miscommunication that kept popping up for no good reason. It was like any time they needed to have an important conversation, they’d get cut off, say something they didn’t mean, do something impulsive that hurt the other person, or get their own feelings hurt and cut the talk short before they could work it out. I swear I had to skim through like 30% of the book because I would have DNF’d it if I tried to sit through the fallout of them constantly tripping over themselves. If you’re like me and the miscommunication trope makes you want to pull your hair out, maybe just look up a plot summary and skip this one. But if you can grin and bear it, I do think it’s worth the read just to fill out the series. Ryan raises the bar for every other MMC, and Indy is the smartest, sunshine-iest heroine I’ve encountered so far. I just wish we could have had more of them being together and less of them getting in their own way.

perfection!
I loved this book so much! Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2023. It was easy to get lost in this book. I loved that I didn’t find myself wanting to scroll forward to get to the point. The plot wasn’t cheesy and it wasn’t totally predictable. Indy’s daily updates to Ryan’s twin Stevie were hilarious! I was able to relate to Indy in more ways than one. Her people pleasing and cheating ex, definitely. Her skills of being a social butterfly and her ability to mask her pain, absolutely not! I loved how Indy’s heartbreak was portrayed. It was realistic. It’s not easy to move on from betrayal. The scars from the past will always be with us. I liked that this author didn’t try to push Indy into destructive behavior or just let her character brush the pain aside. I enjoyed seeing Indy grow from her pain. Yes, she felt that soul crushing pain of being cheated on and her life was completely flipped upside down, but in time she was able to move on from that pain. Indy was able to find strength in herself and found her purpose. It was what she needed to get the life she deserved. Ryan Shay, have mercy, is the ultimate book boyfriend. After finding out the circumstances that caused him to act and live the way he was, my heart bled for him. His character growth was outstanding. He was the calm to Indy’s storm. But it was his actions that stole my heart. Ryan’s actions showed his sincerity and his true feelings for Indy. He definitely checks all the boxes! I don’t want to spoil anything because I was swooning over every thing that man did! This is the first book I’ve read from this author and will not be my last. I can’t wait to read Kai’s story but I’m crossing my fingers for Rio’s too.
