Omada EAP655-Wall, WiFi 6 AX3000 Wall Plate Wireless Gigabit Access Point

I got tired of the mesh system optimum put in with their little wps access points, the speed was ok but the ping times were way higher than they should've been. So I decided to invest into the tp link ecosystem, I gotta say these things are very nice. As you can see this one has 2.4gbps of bandwith, which is more than enough for the average 1 gig service. I only have the 300/300 plan from optimum currently and these little things slam the meter every time. As you can see, these APs have way less delay compared to the mesh ones optimum gives you, with the test server I'm showing, on a wired connection my idle ping is a 3 with sometimes a low of 2. So these access points only add 2-3ms of delay compared to a wired connection(back and forth ping, actual airtime fairness is probably close to a millisecond). I like these wall access points because of their passtrhough ports but I'm sure the ceiling mount ones are just as good. What's great about the two access points i have currently (definetly going to add some more soon) is the seamless roaming between these. The second my phone sees a lower signal strength on one it instantly connects to the other. Plus these designs are just so sleek, they're easy to miss if you hide them well. It will sure have guests confused on where the hell your router is. I would definitely reccomend this product to anyone who's like me and wants a wired system rather than a mesh one, or if you have low single in a portion of your house where it's easy enough to run a wire back to your router. Keep in mind these are POE powered and this particular wall unit DOES NOT come with a poe injector. Be sure to check the pictures of what tp link includes in the box if you need one. Otherwise I'd reccomened their POE switch or even their omada controllers. Though they aren't necessary for a small home.

Ask your friends and you'll probably get mixed reviews. Some say mesh networks are great, some say they suck. Me? I'm a nerd (IT Engineer, specifically) and networks are an area that I like to dabble in. With that being said, mesh networks can be great AND suck. The important part is the implementation.Most mesh routers you see on the market are *wireless* mesh routers. They'll use an additional 5GHz band just for the mesh network and that's usually where the trouble starts. *Wired* mesh networks (meaning all your access points are hardwired back to your router) are absolutely fantastic.TP-Link's Omada gear takes this a step further and offers their Omada Controller software for free. This allows your network to become even smarter, detecting where devices are in your network and automatically switching them to the access point with the strongest signal. I opted for the EAP655-Wall units because they have a small footprint and offer three uplink ports too.I installed one in my basement for additional coverage, but also allowing my mini gaming PC and my Nintendo Switch to be hardwired to the internet. The second is in my spare bedroom, expanding coverage further and hard-wiring my primary gaming PC. It also allows me to work on machines without the need of a switch.Fantastic product, I just wish they came in Wi-Fi 6E or at least offered 2.5G uplinks.

These are very reliable for the money. Many other brands with similar quality are much more expensive (up to 2x)

Painless setup. Did not have a wall box for it, though. Performance seems OK as it is the root for 3 unit mesh to support desktops and phones.

We had an unused Ethernet jack in our kitchen so we got an Omada switch with PoE and this went in the unused Ethernet jack wall box. We now have several Omada PoE access points in the house from that switch and a separate IOT network. The BW is way better (cat 5 wired house) than our mesh was and we now have the Omada security which makes our home IT department head very happy 😏

I invested over $1,000 in TP-Link Omada equipment expecting enterprise-grade reliability, but it has been a massive disappointment. Devices constantly disconnect, roaming fails, and I have spent countless hours troubleshooting configurations with zero lasting stability. It was a complete waste of time and money. I'm taking the loss, pulling out all this hardware, and switching to a more reliable enterprise brand.

I like TP-Link products. They are simple, inexpensive and do the job. Fast WiFi, extra wired ports (including a PoE port), small and looks unobtrusive. Supports the features I needed: VLANs, multiple bands and protocols. I don't have enough TP-Link devices to use their Omada controller, but I tested it and liked the ecosystem. If you go for TP-Link router, switches and multiple access points in your deployment, it would simplify management a lot.

No sé porqué este producto en particular (EAP655-wall) es muy difícil de conseguir. Me llegó en excelente estado y funciona como se debe. Como tengo un controlador físico de Omada basta con conectarlo para adaptarlo y que se configure sólo.

I love these little access points: great signal for an office, basement, or garage, and downlink ports for anything you need wired, including one with 15W PoE.I have one in the basement and when I got fed up of having “just enough” signal while sitting in my car in the driveway to hold onto wifi, but not enough to set up navigation. I installed one in my garage on the line I had already run for the driveway camera, then hung the camera off of it. Problem solved.With Omada I have to say I don’t really think about wifi anymore, it just works once it’s set up. I’m running a controller in a container on my Proxmox home lab server but it would work just as well with the dedicated unit. I think these can work standalone as well.

The first time I ordered the product I received a defective item...The second time I received EAP-230 instead of EAP-655.

Great wifi connection and quality

Excellent access point. The specs say coverage is 50m² which is very accurate. It provides full coverage to my 100 m² single floor house but for strong signal everywhere you will want 2.
