A Gripping Spy Thriller Inspired by True Events" - A must-read
A lovely read. I recently read the book and I must say, I was thoroughly captivated by the story. From the very first page, I found myself unable to put the book down. The author, a former lawyer turned marketeer and entrepreneur, has done an excellent job of weaving together a remarkable spy story that is based on true events. The book takes us on a journey spanning almost nine decades, covering everything from the Bolsheviks in Russia to art dealers at Sotheby's, to clandestine CIA operations and even some steamy romance scandals. What I appreciated most about this book is the way in which the author effortlessly blends fact and fiction. The result is a story that is both intriguing and informative, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the world of art theft and espionage.Overall, I highly recommend "The Portrait of a Secret" to anyone looking for a thrilling and well-written novel that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

A wonderful read
Firstly, that is a beautiful cover that sums up the book perfectly. I love the thriller genre and I am glad I clicked on the ad and bought this book. The book is fast paced, the characters are people you can identify with and the style of writing is easy but keeps you hooked. The chapters end in such a manner that you have no choice but to read the next one.And the ending is totally unexpected. Ties in the entire story in one remarkable paragraph.

The incidents of the story are wholly absorbing. It is unique how Mehrishi has blended real life incidents into a fictional story, pulling in valuable historic moments and geo-political events. This book will captivate your interest and imagination, as unexpected plots pop up in the story. The author’s description of characters and their mannerisms is realistic and relatable. This is Mehrishi’s first novel but he has complete control of his story and style. In conclusion, I recommend that you decide to read this because it’s compelling and will leave you wanting more.

Typical Indian story
This is a common theme in Indian novels and ott.. spies and high profile consipracies narrated over a jumbled timeline.. but for folks who prefer this genre, it's a good one time read...

Riveting!
Fast paced and Riveting! A great first novel by Tarun. Each character is fleshed out with painstaking effort and clarity. Tarun has captured human emotions, insecurities and relationships very accurately. Some of the characters have shades of grey--darker than what normally comes across. The author's first hand understanding of Babu's and government set-ups shines through. The torture scenes will appeal to the lovers of gore. Will not be surprised if this is converted into a movie or a tv series. Read the book while on a holiday at Kaziranga!

A deeply satisfying thriller
After a long time, a thriller worth every minute spent, deserving its place on the top in the genre. The flow of the language, references to contemporary figures and events are delicious. The mark of a great thriller are, the willingness of its readers to believe it. My humble efforts in the field have been exhausting, in the pursuit of a cogent storyline. I expect the author to deliver such goodies with unfailing regularly.

Misleading tagline.
3 stars for the Good Story. But not (TRUE)This novel is not based on true event. Each and every part of the chapter is ficticious and made up out of author’s own imagination. The author has himself written in Author’s note that “This story is entirely fictional”How can it be inspired by true events, when the events itself did not occured the way it was stated.Reading the back cover of the book, you will find an excitement to know about the true happenings that must have taken place in our country. However, it’s not like that. Had there been mention of some actually-true events, it would have been intriguing.

Well worth the download
As a big John le Carre fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced novel which I have found full of history, intrigue and excellent story telling. Would recommend the kindle version for others less familiar with Indian history, as the quick look-up features has been super helpful.
