very good should have got one before when my carer sorted out how to use it

This is a pleasure to use. Once set up, it's fast to use, though you have to make small adjustments manually.

I have worked on this mountboard cutter for about 3 hours so far. Overall compared to my previous handcutter it is a pleasure to use. It cuts mountboard in one pull of the cutter and backing board in two to three cuts depending on the sharpness of the blades. The one shortcoming this cutter has and it is quite a major one is that the squaring arm is so mean.It is too short . This makes it fussy to work with when cutting full sheets. I am getting one custom built at the moment This tool cost me over 200 euro I dont see why a longer arm and a better fixing one is not supplied.

For the price, I would not recommend this mat cutting board. It is ridiculous to assemble and has many loose parts. I have a bow in the mats I cut, they are not cutting straight and I ended up having to glue the squaring brackets in place as they were perpetually loose and shaky, without being able to be secured because of the mounting screw which stuck up too high and kept catching the threading screws that are supposed to slide across them. Very clumsy design.

I paint in watercolor at an intermediate level and have reached the point that I am pleased with the outcome of many of my efforts. Some I want to display in my home and others I want to give as gifts. What I don't want is to pay a fortune for someone to mat and frame them. My husband has made some frames and I wanted to make my own mats. I have some physical challenges that interfere with me cutting mats with just a ruler and straight edge. I ordered this mat cutter to cut mats and foam board. I was able to assemble the unit myself and follow the instructions to utilize the unit to measure and cut what I needed. I could not be more pleased. It will pay for itself in short order.

The 450 Artist Elite Mat Cutter is a huge step up from my old 301 Compact model (although that is also a great product) because it can handle full-sized 32"x 40" sheets of matboard, and the production stops allow me to whiz through a large number of mats very quickly (as long as I have done my arithmetic correctly in setting everything up!). The pull-style cutter it comes with is far superior to the push-style cutter I used with my 301 model. I have only two serious complaints about the product so far: 1) The squaring bar is extremely short for doing an accurate job - really inadequate for large pieces of matboard. I know the next model up (Simplex) has longer, more solid hardware for this, but it comes with a significantly more expensive price tag. 2) During assembly I discovered that the two metal mat guide channels didn't fit snugly into the grooves in the cutting board, and the screws that were supposed to secure them also didn't fit properly into the pre-drilled holes (the holes were larger than the screws, so they had nothing to grip!) AND the heads stuck up slightly so that the mat guide didn't run smoothly in the track. I solved these problems by using a heavy-duty glue to permanently bond the mat guide channels into the grooves, and have had no problems with them since then. However I was surprised and disappointed that a quality product would have such rinky-dink fittings. Despite these reservations I have been extremely happy with the machine, and have cut several hundred mats with it in the month since it arrived - all much faster and easier than with my old model.
